He’ll absolutely be on Sweden’s WJC team, and Scandinavian players have worked out pretty well for this franchise over the years, so I’m happy with this pick.

Anybody watch him play in todays game against the U.S. Nice size, very good speed, strong in the faceoff dot.

Not really seen to be a strong scoring threat, but his defensive positioning looks very good to me. Has been compared to Lowry and I do agree, but much faster.

I thought his skating was bad recently(to the point where people where raving about the fact he’s worse than Logan Stanley in that area at the Rookie Camp.

Sweden plays Canada tonight on TSN for another chance to observe.

Honestly, I think issues with his skating are being overstated. If anything, his conditioning might be subpar at the moment, but that boy was playing the full 200 ft game.

I am hopeful we have something with him after a few more years.

I thought it was just his mechanics that were bad? Didn't go to the rookie camp though.

I think I mentioned this in my RC write up. Awkward mechanics but speed was fine and he was strong all over the ice. I think there was general agreement from those of us there that he had a very heady, mature all-round game. I know I really liked him.

Watched him in the USA/Sweden game. His first step is awkward but once he works up to speed he can really move. Really tried to drive the net everytime he had the puck and worked the boards down low. Was very defensively aware on the ice as well.

From Corey Pronman’s Twitter.

Players of the game as selected by the teams: David Gustafsson (WPG) and Alex Formenton (OTT). Formenton has impressed me with his play throughout camp.

Watched the game. He was good positionally and has good instincts both offensively and defensively.

He is strong along the boards and battled hard for pucks. I liked his ability to take and receive a pass through the nz. That skill will really help him on breakouts and break ins. He shows some good vision with the puck.

Skating was better than what i was expecting. He is able to get where he needs to go and his top speed is above average. He just needs to continue to work on his first few steps.

He actually reminds me of Copp at the same level, plays a "pro" style game already and seems to be very defensively responsible. He had a few scoring chances that didn't pan out, but seemed to be putting himself in good positions regularly.

Good take. I watched some of game today. He throws pucks away into bad spots sometimes, almost panicked with puck at times, needs more patience with it. Nothing big, but small sample I noticed it a few times.

Did any of you see something in his game that set off alarm bells in your heads?

As mentioned, his skating is a bit awkward but he gets around the rink well. He's very active. Loves to get to the net front. Smart along the boards. Has good vision.

He was on for 2 PP goals against, but his only issue was losing the faceoff on one. He was caught flat-footed playing D at his own blue line leading to another goal. Nice setup for a goal.
