Was used mostly as the 13th forward, so it's hard to gauge. But by the end his performance was definitely higher than 13th amongst Canadian forwards, and maybe should have been recognized a little earlier.

Zary is clearly too good for the WHL at this point, not much point in him being there but he will obviously be in Stockton full-time next year and it's not too hard to imagine him getting some time with the Flames in the 21-22 season. He's looking very much like the 2nd line center of the future, and with all due respect to Mikael Backlund, the Flames desperately need a line driving center for the 2nd line, its seems like a very long time since that has been the case.

I think this guy's talent level can match something of a Bo Horvat level, which is a better overall player and play driver for the Flames than Monahan. At least for a much longer duration I'd say.

I'm not sure of why all this talk of how C's are so valuable and then teams subsequently let him slide to #24 in the past draft. He should have unequivocally been at top 15 back in October at the time.

Think you spelled Monohan's name wrong. Backlund isn't the problem with the Flames.

Even in a Zary thread people bitch about Monahan, f*** off.

Zary should be in the AHL, was at 7 points in 9 games and was picking up steam before he had to go back to the Dub.

rough start for the kid. 3 games in and only one point and a -7 😲 to show for it so far... Is this kid a bust?

Way too early to call him a bust. If he kept those stats up all of this season then yeah you likely could. But I don’t think anyone is that bad over an extended stretch.

Embarrassing post
No the post is relevant. Zary was garbage last season. So far he has shown nothing except last night. Since there were lots of players his age tearing up the AHL last year he isn't looking good unless it is because his coach is an idiot.

Except this poster is only posting it because he is upset about some Flames - Leafs trade thread. It's ultimate pettiness

To be fair, he as injured in camp and missed a good chunk of the season. When he returned he was buried in the bottom 6 on a strong team.

This season he’s getting his shot at the top 6 with a full camp. It will offer a better yardstick of where he’s at.

Zary is two points shy of matching his point total from last season (25) which he amassed in 53 games.

He has played just 22 games thus far.
Adjusting to playing pro is hard enough. Coming back from a broken foot mid-season while trying to do it is unfair. Last season wasn’t at all representative of Zary’s skill or potential honestly.

Most impressively he’s doing it away from Phillips and Pelletier at 5v5 all season. He’s been asked to centre the second line with Emilio Peterson and Pospisil(?) almost all year.

That’s impressive. On the surface I was thinking his point totals might’ve been a byproduct of Phillips. Thanks for mentioning that they don’t play on the same line.
