Yikes!, Bedard could set this tourney on fire with the groupings the way they are. He gets to feast on Belarus, Latvia and Switzerland.

Hall, Lafreniere, Reinhart, and Murray were all late birthdays as well.

McDavid was the only other one who was a true double underager by birthyear not the September 15 cutoff. Pretty impressive company.

Tavares isn't listed there but he played at 15 when he was actually 4 drafts away since he was 15 and also a late bday.

Bedard will be the 2nd youngest ever to play for Canada I believe

Wow I just realised this kid is a center and not a defenseman. I was under the impression for the last year he was a defensman who would roam everywhere on the ice...

Nice cross-ice assist while getting pressured by two players. Skating stands out, as expected. Looks small but he hasn’t backed down from getting involved on the boards.

Beauty assist. Canada absolutely dominating the Swedes.

4-0 after the 1st.

Looked decent, 7/10, but was overshadowed by the Shane Wright show. The assist was disgusting and super high skill though, choking up on the stick to receive the pass, skated by 2, and did a “Crosby Step” with his hips to get himself in position to pass off for the goal

Team Canada rolled the lines. Stankoven’s goal is 100% Bedard’s forecheck, too. Played great despite looking small out there.
Yeah he didn't get credited with an assist but his stick lift on the dman is the reason the Stankoven goal happened. His ability to lift sticks and steal pucks is a really underrated part of his game which should only get better as he grows+gets stronger

Similar knack that McDavid has.

Guess we know the hype-train is in full motion when we are relegated to oohing and ahhing over 'stick lifts' ..lol

Aside from nice assist , didnt do much.

That's the difference between being the main weapon on a team and being one of many.

They don't have TOI statistics for the tournament, but I'm pretty sure Michkov didn't play a lot in the 1st and especially 2nd game. He plays on the 2nd PP as well. I think, it's similar for Bedard. McDavid, on the other hand, was the best player by far on that Team Canada, had tons of playing time and scored a lot.

My favorite play he made was when he had the puck on the sideboards.. spun around and ripped it off the opposite boards cross-ice which banked perfectly to a defenseman who was coming in the zone to join the attack.

Just incredible awareness.

This was my first viewing of him and that part of his game was my most surprising takeaway. He’s not passive just looking to beat people with his skill. He was active buzzing around on the forecheck, taking the puck away from players and wasn’t afraid to crash the net when he needed to. Obviously he is not as big or strong as the older players but he didn’t seem intimidated at all.

The offensive awareness and skating ability was evident as well. Only got a few chances to showcase his vaunted shot which honestly probably allowed me to focus more on other parts of his game since it gets so much attention

Tried to do too much and created lots of turnovers. He needs to realize he isn’t alone on the ice. He was responsible for the only goal scored against them. A big step for him last night. Let’s see if he can adjust...
