I don't understand how you can use that logic to discredit Bedard while simultaneously propping up Carlsson, wouldnt that apply to him? We all saw what bedard did in the WJC. He's the real deal.

you mean the game againts Slovakia? with no Slaf ?

What about the 4 points he put up against Carlsson's Team Sweden?

That's not even mentioning his insane playoff performance and run after the WJC ended. He's proven himself more than enough. To tout Carlsson over him is A Class contrarianism.

I think Bedard is more like a mix between Kane and DeBrincat (or even Caufield) than he is a comparible, style wise, to Matthews.

Kane's height, lateral skating, vision, and play making. Cat's low center of gravity, right shot, elite wrister (though Bedard's is better), and Cat's straight line skating.

Combine all those attributes and stick 'em at center. That's Connor Bedard IMO.

Kane, who plays center, with an elite shot, with more feisty, and more muscle mass ... yeah - that works for me.

This may have been asked and discussed before. If so, my apologies.

I'm wondering if Bedard were traded for ONE current player, who would that player be for the trade to be considered "fair"?

There are certain players "better" than Bedard where it'd never happen. e.g. McDavid, Draisaitl, McKinnnon, Makar, Matthews

And there are some players who would not be "enough" for Bedard 1 for 1 e.g. Nylander, Steutzle, Zegras

I'm wondering where the "cut-off" is in people's views. I'm guessing Pettersson would be too much (better) and Eichel wouldn't be enough. Plus there are those who are too old e.g. Crosby, Ovechkin, Malkin

Again, 1 for 1 deal. No draft picks etc. Would Pasternak be too much? Not enough? Jason Robertson? Jack Hughes?

As a hawks fan yes there’s better players obviously than him right now but there isn’t one we’d trade him for. Not that they aren’t worth it but he will be 18 next year. Not a “older player” coming into a rebuilding team that was ripped to the studs.

Bedard is the foundation for Chicago. So while some players are currently better, there’s no way I’d trade the prospects of having Bedard for a decade plus for a player who’s currently 25/26.

I'm not asking if Hawks fans or fans of the other team, giving up the player would make the trade. I'm just looking for people's opinion on Bedard's value. What would be a "fair" swap even if you wouldn't make it or wouldn't want your team to make it?

Matthews is the best comp right now, though.
I don't think so, I believe that it's a poor comparable overall. Kind of annoying how people force comparisons to the biggest stars with one or two skills of a similar level instead of comparing to players to play like them.

Someone like Pastrnak is much closer.

There is no "fair" value.

His trade value, in a vacuum, is only equalled by McDavid’s.

That’s tough to say. I just don’t know.

Gotta love this website.

On one hand, people want him to bust because he's now a Blackhawk

Then on the other, you have people saying Auston Matthews, someone who's already dominated in theNHL, as a comparable is an insult to Bedard.

Expectations need to be tempered big time, at least for his first year or two. He's not gonna just walk around NHL defensemen and get to the very high-danger areas with ease like he did in juniors. There's gonna be adjustment.

I expect he might have a rookie season closer to Jack Hughes (who's arguably evolved into a Top5-10 player) than Auston MAtthews.

There are zero players in the league, even McDavid, that I would trade Bedard for. Simply because of the timeline and the age and the salary. He probably will never be as good as McDavid but at the same time, a 27 year old McDavid making 12+ does nothing for the Hawks in their current state.
Does an 18 year old Bedard on an ELC do anything for the Hawks in their current state?

Not like that cap is being used for anything aside from Seth Jones

They’ll be well positioned to sign him to an 8 year extension. All goes well, we’re looking at 11 years of Bedard as a Blackhawk.

typical clueless Toronto fan comment that will look bad after a single season.
