More and more convinced that this guy is an Av at 23rd. Especially with Roy's comments today on how they want to continue to add size, character and skill.

The only thing that stops it from happening is if a really big name drops or if they like a defenceman more. Given the Avs impressive group of FW, I could see them leaning towards a D if it's close on their scouting board.

Walking away with Sanheim or Bleackley would be nice.

Its kinda interesting that HF seems to be much higher on Bleackley than alot of the hockey experts. I personally love the kid, he reminds me much more of O'Reilly than McNeill.

alot of the legit rankings have him as an early 2nd pick whereas most HF drafts have him in the early/midd 20's

Just wanted to pump this kid's tires one last time before the draft. I've had him in my top 10 basically all year (9th on my final list). He's likely to have a better NHL career than several of the ''skill'' players that will almost surely be selected ahead of him. Whoever drafts him will be getting a gem.

What a pick for the Avs, one of my favorite players in the draft. Watched him quite a bit this year - just a great hockey player. I posted some notes on him a few times in this thread throughout the year if you want to scroll back.

10 goals in is last 10 games, 12 in his last 13. Seems to be really heating up. Looks like he may be a decent prospect.

He was noticeably the best player on the ice last night in the Rebels/Hitmen game. Should have been first star but home-team bias bumped him down to second.

I was really impressed with his skating, and quickness in the corners avoiding checks. He seems much smaller than the 6'1", 198lbs they have him listed as but could just be his skating style.

I've watched quite a bit of him this season because he's just so much fun to watch. Love the way he fires the puck with his filthy shot but it's the heart and soul aspect where you just know he's going to do something to impact the game. It's nice he's been racking up the goals lately but what's more amazing to me is seeing him do it in clutch situations quite often. Definitely looking forward to the time when he can make an impact with the Avs.

He does appear smaller at time just because of his hunched over stance. He's been solid this year, a couple quiet games early in the year, but he's starting to his his stride. Not dominant every shift, but he makes big plays every game and he still has the physical edge and defensive play that we all know and love.

Good observation Zjh, you are right that he hunches over quite a bit. But this also gets him in trouble at times, he has his head down too much and got smoked a couple of times in Avs training camp.

He does have a physical edge, but Roy was disappointed that he came into camp overweight. Knowing Bleackley, he will do all he can to lose weight over the summer, but I wonder if he will lose a bit of his physical edge (in terms of puck protection) because of this.

Satisfied with Connor Bleackley progression?

Was a big fan of Connor. Thought the kid was a steal and had the total package. What can explain his lack of offensive progression this year? I know it's early...but what are your thoughts on him at this point?

Goal scoring up, assists down. From what I've been told from those that watched him, he didn't have a lot of help in the scoring department.

I really don't get why people see Bleackley in this negative light all of a sudden. I watched him all year and thought he did well. Could he have scored more points, yeah but its really only assists where he was down. He scored 29 goals in 71 games in his draft year, 27 goals in 51 games this last year. Look at how the lack of offense hurt the rest of the Rebels. Fleury went from 46 points to 28, Adam Musil was considered a possible first round selection and was taken in the 4th round after putting up 39 points. I hate to use the team excuse but I watched so many games where they needed Bleackley to score first or tie/win the game. Its unfortunate an injury cut his season short but I'm happy with his progression as an Avs fan and think he's going to have a big year.

I am one of his biggest fans have seen him a ton over the past two years... agree that he looks like he needs to lose some weight and gain quickness, he is a thicker body he could lean out a bit I think it would really benefit his game. Love his all-around skill package I thought he was a steal for the Avs, am still a big fan, has big-time leadership qualities as well.

His ability to score big goals was really impressive. I hope the skating sessions during the Avs development camp helped him realize his weak points as he could become a very good player with the right development.

As has been mentioned, his goal totals were actually on pace to be higher, but the Rebels just couldn't score last year.

I watched him play in December against the Oil Kings in Edmonton he blew me away. He was by far the most dominant player on the ice that night. He also scored a really nice goal on Jarry who isn't a slouch in net.

He improve his skating?

If he does, he could be the 2nd line version of RoR.
