C Bradley Nadeau - University of Maine, NCAA (2023, 30th, CAR)

Agreed on all of the above. He will be a top-six guy and a PP contributor because I don't think he has the defensive game to be a bottom-sixer -- not yet anyway.

I'd like to see some more stats about his defensive game to confirm this, but his plus/minus (-11) on a Chicago team that is basically even is concerning. I know +/- is not the be all and end of all defensive stats, but there was an eight-game stretch stretch in Jan where he was -11 and a recent five-game stretch where he was -9.

You can teach a guy to play defence, though, and if he's giving the effort, I'm not worried. He will have to round out his game more though before he'll be able to establish himself with the Canes.

This kid has surprised a lot of people, myself included. I know many projected him as a middle 6’er but he could possibly even be better. Damn he can rip the puck too.
The interesting thing with him he was kinda of a shock first round pick because of his size and him playing in the BCHL . It will be interesting because sherwood park has 2 kids putting up his type numbers in the bchl that are looking at 4-6 th round . Lorranger and dach ripping up bchl and there on younger and weaker team than he was at Penticton . It great to see him rip up maine and continue do well .

yea - that he was ranked that high coming out of bchl - i’m guessing he might be only first round coming out of bchl ?

I would also count Paul Kariya, Kent Johnson and Matthew Wood as they played their D-1 season in the BCHL.

As for the shock thing, it's only on this board really. I mean there's only a handful of people who watch the BCHL on this board and I'm the only one that does updates on players here.

Ya, was about to say, anybody guessing Nadeau was the first first rounder out of the BCHL hasn't been paying attention for very long. That being said, the BCHL going forward is likely to be a different - and likely worse - level of competition given changes in CHL-NCAA player movement.

Nadeau's same-age production in the BCHL always compared favourably with Johnson, Newhook, Jost and others that went a bit higher, but he was a smaller winger who hadn't showed anything against international competition (and still hasn't, thank you Dave Cameron). That made it harder for him to rise further.

Yea - thx , most of this board doesn’t follow that league at all so appreciate updates . I just started following last year as I got some kids there from my area that I follow .

On pace to score the most goals by a U20 AHL player in the last 20 years. He scores goals from the left-side of the ice from one-timers most of the time. I think there is serious 35-40 goal potential here. The only concern is his defensive game because it is awful.

28 goals so far, really impressive for a 19 year old rookie in the A. He's translated really well level to level, looks like the Hurricanes have a guy here moving forward. Hope he gets more NHL games in the near future.
It's pretty crazy too. I remember a lot of people not liking the fact that he was signed after a season in the NCAA. He proved everyone wrong after a slow start. I really hope he gets a chance next season with Suzuki. There is zero reason to keep them both down. Replace Robinson and Roslovic (two individuals with subpar defensive results, robinson good on PK tho) with two rookies who could replace the production for cheaper cost. Carolina doesn't number their lines so it wouldn't be that big of a deal.

Jarvis-Aho-Blake
Hall-Kotkaniemi-Stankoven
Martinook-Staal-Carrier
Nadeau-Suzuki-Jankowski

It's probably best to trade Svechnikov in the off-season, but it's either him or the prospects. I think Carolina needs centers and Suzuki is the most NHL ready. Nadeau is still young so it wouldn't be a great big deal if he wasn't promoted, but he has dominated the AHL offensively. I hate that Martinook and Staal are still on the books because they are blocking prospects and I don't think the Hurricanes win the cup with those two individuals.

There is no way the Canes are resigning Taylor Hall in the offseason and trading Svechnikov will be hard.
I also don't like putting Nadeau on the 4th line as that might only stunt his progress.

I wonder if his success moves Sherwood Park Dach and Lorranger higher up in the draft as they are putting up huge numbers in the BCHL like he did . I don’t see those two going first round like him as they are projected 3-4 th but scouts love to use comparisons and him going late first round looks like a steal pick !

Canes were already rumored to resign Hall. They probably let Robinson and Roslovic walk. Also, rod doesn’t number his lines so the 4th line isn’t necessarily the 4th line. Every play has to earn their way up the lineup in RBA system.

Canes won't re-sign Roslovic but Robinson has speed and size, is well liked and has produced. I could see him re-signed.

I don't ever see Suzuki sticking with the big club. Jankowski has size, speed, ability to PK and has produced for the Canes. He is a better fit than the undersized Suzuki for 4th line duty.

Back to Nadeau, 30 goals in a man's league at his age is amazing. He still needs to fill out physically and hopefully over the summer will utilize the same regimen that Jackson Blade did. If he does, I suspect he makes the club. But....

Hall is the wild card that could put Nadeau in the AHL again next year for just one more year.
