C Berkly Catton - Spokane Chiefs, WHL (2024, 8th, SEA)

Catton should probably play in AHL next year but that's not an option. Not really a third line guy. Shouldn't unseat someone like Wright or Beniers. Probably back to the WHL. In future, a guy like him should not sign an ELC right out of the Draft and go spend a year in the NCAA.

Given how the Kraken lineup currently is, I don't think there would be a massive difference between our 2nd and 3rd lines. He could easily be playing 13-14 minutes a game which is not bad to ease himself in to the NHL. He could end up playing a on 3rd line of Tolvanen-Stephenson/Wright-Catton which is really not bad for a 3rd line either.

I just don't see him having much to learn in juniors next season. The only way I see him going back is if his size becomes that much of an issue.

Yeah it’s the classic tweener dilemma. If he was born a little earlier and was December ‘05 it’d be straightforward. Perhaps they put him in nhl, just generally not a huge fan of putting guys into nhl too quickly.

I am undoubtedly very excited about Catton and I think a lot of his skills are transferrable to the NHL but have some concerns about his size/frame. If he can do some work this off-season to pack on some weight + muscle before development camp I would be thrilled.

Physical development and training should be the main focus of his development for at least a year. I don't think a few months is enough to get a skinny kid very far. I would organize his schedule around the gym and training and fit in 1-2 games a week around that.

Seeing how Clayton Keller operates at his size playing for Utah, combined with the forward group the Kraken have, I think Catton could find success fulfilling a similar type of role to Keller. I really liked Catton in last years draft and thought he was a top 5 guy (3rd for me) - very excited to see what he becomes at the NHL level.

The famous size......zzzzzzz

The famous 6.0....

Catton has something that almost nobody has....great Oq and vision

Gretzky, Ribeiro, Pat Kane , lane Hutson has no size but great IQ

Catton was and still in my view the 3rd best player of the draft after Celebrini and Demidov.

Half of the best players in NHL history are not 6.0....

Dionne
Sakic
Yzerman
CROSBY
ST LOUIS
KANE
KUCHEROV

..and a lot of them are way less than 200 pounds

Those guys were built like brick walls compared to Catton (currently). He's going to need some time before he's winning puck battles in the NHL.

Did you see Gretzky, Ribeiro, Kane and Hutson....shirtless ???

Skinny as hell those guys but ..their brain....

Wayne and Ribeiro were 6.0 and 170........ think about that...

Again the dude has the 2 most important skills in hockey...: IQ and Vision.

His zone entrance are off chart...

Forget about the size when you have a dude that smart.

Gretzky had no size, Ribeiro either..Hutson currently.

Dudes like those guys and dude like Kucherov for exemple at 5.11 are too smart for big dumb North- South players.

Fans, Scouts , Gm are so good at looking at size....my grand Mother could do it....but they are not so good to analyse IQ ....again the most important skill..
