Nah, it will be interesting to see what he can do with better linemates. You can still have those bad nights tho, it could be that this is one of them.

This I can agree with. Matthews might have 0+0. But he is immensely talented and Larkin and Foligno both are quality players especially in this competition. A good night for a couple of them a bit of luck and a few power plays and Matthews could have a five point night.

He will not be a different talent tomorrow either way.

As soon as his line leaves the ice US looks like a totally different team. They aren't very good. Matthews and his line will need to produce in this game. Interested to see if those three can step up to the plate. They did look dangerous in the first.

He played with Nelson and Vatrano last game, Larkin and Foligno this game, can't complain about quality of linemates. Larkin is an absolute beast

Nelson and Larkin would be in the 1st line in Finnish line-up pretty much always, so no, can't complain. I'm tunin up for the 2nd period.

Actually if you apply Matthews age and speed of skating with Nikola Tesla's dynamic theory of gravity in conjunction with Ensemble interpretation of quantum mechanics he actually should have been drafted in 2014 and is indeed 1 and a half years older than Eichel.

funny part is this is how a lot of advanced stat watchers here reason .

it's really hard to tell if Matthews is better than Eichel, could become a bit of a MacKinnon/Barkov situation in a way

Wow sick save there against Matthews though he also had a poor pass on that 3v1.

An assist taking away from Matthews as well on a crease violation (I think) after Matthews set up Larkin in the slot who picked a corner.

Matthews is really snakebit in terms of points.

Matthews heating up in this period. Should've 2 points already. First one called off because of stupid rules and later on gets robbed by Hudacek.

I think that Foligno's doing a better job of preventing Matthews scoring than his opponents are.

Funny thing is that he has done the same thing in almost every game. Does this guy have an IQ of potato or something?

Still, if it was the NHL that would've been a goal.

Of course but it's not like the international rules have changed(And IMO NHL has too many goalie injuries due to this but that's for another discussion).

Matthews has had a good game some uncharacteristic bad passes and turnovers but it's really hard to get a good read on him because the U.S. Team as a whole is brutal. Larkin, Matthews, and Nelson have been the only good forwards on the ice. The u.s should be able to ice a better team than this.

Seems like Matthews can't handle pressure very well. Not a good thing for someone who should be the number one pick in the coming draft.

It's not just the quality of the team in my opinion. He is seen as The Man in the team but he is just a kid. A great prospect but still. The quality of play gets easily underrated - it is not Stanley Cup PO but it is pretty high quality opposition.

It is just not realistic to assume him to shine all the time on personal level either. Young players make mistakes and have a lot less consistency than they will a few years later. Matthews being such a high rated prospect lends to unrealistic expecations and I think some people may have been seeing a bit more of what they have wanted to see, too.

That being said USA is through and now the silly format takes over. I think some of the pressure may come off with it, too. Matthews has had an outstanding tournament for a 18 year old and he still has every chance to imrpove on it, and even walk away with some hardware for whatever it is worth.

Today Matthews did get robbed a couple of times. A couple of more of those chances and a lucky bounce and that might be enough for him to carry his team to semis.

I see no evidence of this. Furthermore I already touched his role in the team in my previous post. Asking 18 year olds to lead teams in WHC is unfair to them and expecting them to do it, and assume that they can't handle the pressure when they get through and advance in the tournament is silly.
