I would be remiss to not mention, for accuracy sake. You forgot to mention Matthews is even a later Birthday. Missed the 2015 draft by hours. And also it's actually closer to 10 and a half months than 11 months that Eichel is older than Matthews. Which is ironic to the situation we have in this year's draft if we are to be consistent in our evaluation.
By 2 days, now saying hours, usually that would mean he was born like 3 hours off the deadline. You know who also missed the draft by so called "hours" Tavares. Stop reaching, you might strain your back with how far your going.........

Time to slink away now methinks....well put.:D

Nah dude he missed it by just 172,800 seconds! His mom missed the deadline by mere seconds. If only she knew he'd grow up to be a hockey player

OK Matthews missed the 2015 draft by 48 hours. Is this more accurate?

Who cares who is better, Eichel and Mathews are both great #1 center prospects. Should be a fun rivalry. I only wish Mathews were Canadian. Don't want to root against a great American hockey player.

Agreed.

Let's just link arms and laugh at all of the teams who don't have them

But how could we ever compare Matthews and Eichel when they're in the NHL? They won't be on the same team, so of course it isn't fair. Only way any player can be compared to another player is when they're playing on the same team.

Even then, what if one plays on the first line and the other on the 2nd? What about #1PP/#2PP? It would still be very hard to compare them unless they played on the same line. If that happens, one will have to play a position they've never played before so it will still be very difficult to compare them. I think it's actually impossible? :dunno:

Good point! I'd say it's pointless to compare any players ever! Might as well shut the forum down, players are incomparable.

They have to be born at the exact second and same location, even the Sedin twins aren't comparable. One's had more developmental time.........

Winter Soldier, I'm curious what changed so much between Matthews and Eichel in the span of three months, considering you had Matthews equal (or higher) than Eichel just a few months ago:

The Leafs won the lottery.

So let me get this straight:

-Poster compares Eichel and Matthews' respective development years relative to eachother. Seems fair.

-Other poster comes in and says it's a bad comparison and goes ahead and compares their production in the same year despite Eichel being 11 months older than Matthews (despite poster hammering the fact that Matthews only missed the draft by 48 hours, while completely ignoring the fact that Eichel is still 11 months older, not a big difference whatsoever).

-poster compiles a beautiful chart contrasting their development years and how Matthews has indeed outscored Eichel in 10/11 endeavors.

-Other poster comes in and says his comparison is better even though he ignored two very crucial facts about them being in entirely different draft years (and Eichel being 11 months older of course) and discredits poster's perfect apples to apples comparison while glorifying his own skewed comparison while ignoring very crucial facts.

My ****ing head hurts from reading these last couple pages.

Henrik Sedin was breastfed for a few more minutes than Daniel Sedin over the years. It all makes sense now why he's better than Daniel.

Still seems to be some chance that Matthews goes #2/to the Jets. Matthews, Scheifele and Little down the middle with Ehlers, Wheeler and Connor on the wings would be such a fantastic group of forwards. Amazing to think the Jets might have a shot at Matthews.

I recommend you give up your hope for that ASAP.

Be happy with Laine, your fellow Jets fans seem to be ecstatic with him anyway.

Yeah, I'll become a lifelong Jets fan if the Leafs pass on Matthews. There is a greater chance for the Raptors to win the NBA championship by sweeping both series remaining than there is of Laine going first overall to the Leafs.

The Leafs won the lottery.

^ I feel about 90% of the people now dogging Matthews started when the Leafs won. It will just make it better when he proves them wrong. Kinda like Marner has had to do lots of people ragging on him all year mostly because he's part of the leafs organization and all he has done is destroyed the OHL.

As for Matthews and Eichel comparison that's all I heard the last couple years most people were saying that both were really close talent wise. The comparison is used more in the early portion of the season as scouts and analysts start to use Laine and mcdavid comparisons closer to the draft to create false drama. The fact that Matthews is so close to Eichel talent wise is what makes me as a Leafs fan so excited.

Time zones? Hold your horses we haven't even touched on leap years yet. Eichel also skates closer to the speed of light than Matthews does, he must be percieving time slower as well.

Actually if you apply Matthews age and speed of skating with Nikola Tesla's dynamic theory of gravity in conjunction with Ensemble interpretation of quantum mechanics he actually should have been drafted in 2014 and is indeed 1 and a half years older than Eichel.

I thought we had an analytics department for this very thing. Same old Leafs, can't even get quantum.mechanics right..

Matthews is playing with Larkin and Foligno tonight and against a weak Slovakia. Shouldn't he rack up the points like a madman? :sarcasm:
