It really depends on what you think of Tavares and Stamkos, obviously. Ovechkin, Crosby, McDavid, and Kane are all clear cut a tier above him, but personally I've never been a huge fan of Tavares and Stamkos. I don't think they take over games like a player like Matthews might be able to. Personally, I might take Mackinnon and Hall over Stamkos.

Hey friend, just to let you know that embedding a Youtube video, you only need to include the characters between the YT brackets that come directly after the "V=" so in this case it only needs to be "J3t_mkcfFyc" between the brackets. Thanks for the video!

Thank you! I've been needing to know how to do that for the last year and half.

Next year will be epic with hopefully Crosby, Kane, McDavid, Matthews as first overall draft pics fighting for art ross (I really think Matthews can be PPG so he will be close :) )

I wonder how he would respond if by chance the Leafs did get him. By going to Switzerland he sort of bypassed the whole CHL hype train that surrounds so many of the top picks. Would he be prepared for the Toronto microscope?

Many tap-in goals for sure...

Is that a bad thing? It's not like there's any shortage of highlight reel goals. No matter though. They don't ask how, they ask how many. And the answer will be "a lot" through his career.

I know you're trying to put down Matthews to make other players look better, but that's a silly comment there.

Just an interesting observation.. Lot of tap-ins and some weak goals far-away. I a little disappointed on that highlight video because Matthews should be 1st pick. But we will see...

What's disappointing? The fact that he's scored so many goals? Or that he makes it look easy?

And there is no "should be" about it. Matthews is the undisputed favorite to go #1. So long as he's got all his limbs, he's getting picked first.

It's a highlight video so i m expecting some great dekes and goals, not a montage of normal goals. Also Should be (used in auxiliary function to express what is probable or expected). :naughty:

Yea, none of those snipes were impressive. Better to have a bunch of meaningless dangles.

There were not a lot of tap-ins. So right off the bat you're factually wrong. There's a difference between a tap-in and some of those doorstep goals he was scoring. They required skill and patience. The rest of your assessment is subjective. Mathews isn't a super-flashy player, he's a very effective scorer.

Watch the video.
You are wrong.

Not that tap-ins are a bad thing anyway. Matthews has great offensive instincts and will get a lot of goals like Kane and Crosby in close but few goals were tap-ins.

There is a clear difference between scoring in close and a tap-in. A tap-in implies a freebie goal into an open net while most of Matthews goals in close required skill and showed him stick handling around a goalie or roofing a puck quickly. He's clearly a top notch goal scorer and can score in a number of ways, which he showed in the clip.

Maybe it's a language issue for you as there is a clear difference between scoring a goal in close that requires skill and a tap-in?

Aside from a highlight video has anyone seen his highlights from his time with the NTDP and how as a 16 year old he went up against 21-22 year olds against Michigan State when he got called up to play with the U-18's in 2013-14. Or the U-18's last year and WJC this year where he dominated board play and was so effective with eluding players and retrieving pucks in his skates. Those are the little things that people notice that watch him play full games. Besides scoring my personal favorite about him is he's never trapped, and so hard to take the puck from.

For sure but that goaltending seemed pretty awful, many of those shots are stopped by NHL goalies. His shot is certainly a weapon still.

All the goalies in NLA are swiss or playing with swiss license, anyone know if imports are banned?
15/20 top scorers are imports but all the goalies are domestic, with Switzerlands goalie production its no wonder that players with good shot like Matthews score a lot.
