In all fairness Matthews got his 10 points in 10-0 blowout over Slovakia and 13-1 win over germany. Ofcourse its not bad to score against those teams but he got 1 point in 2 games against Russia and Sweden and 9 points against Slovakia and Germany. so... not like his dominating the big boys there.

And nobody else gets to play Slovakia or Germany? The U.S. is the only team with that luxury?

Watched as many highlights and shift-by-shift as I could.

This dude is super good at hockey. God I hope the Leafs are bad enough to get him next year.

Would you have any links? Haven't been able to catch any games.

Just google Auston Matthews highlights, most are from the World Juniors but there are some from college.

He plays the kind of game you need to be great in the NHL nowadays. And he's like 6'2 200lbs...at 17.

Only missed this year's draft eligibility by two days apparently.

Whoops, I should've been more specific. Thought you meant highlights of the U18s.

I've seen him play a few times and came away thinking the same thing, he's got the build and style of play to be a dominant force in the league.

That's true but it's also pretty standard for how points get distributed at the group stage. We'll have to see what he does from here on out.

Oh sorry, no I've just been watching stuff in general on him lol.

I'm pumped for this kid.

In three years, the guys being drafted are going to be 2000 borns.

That's nuts.

Looking at their bios and they both have September birthdays so it looks like you're right. I just didn't know if something like an early/late birthday ever played a factor with a prospect.

I'm sure there are many cases where it has when a GM is comparing two guys at the top of their board, but generally I don't think it factors in much. It's mostly something people use in arguments about why their prospect is better than the other guy's.

Exactly.

If anything it's a good thing if he performs. 11 more months of development is 11 months closer to being NHL ready. Who cares anyway.

In some cases one guy has almost a year on another guy, which can be factored in to account for the fact that one has had more time to develop.

Absolutely. But people tend to forget that when a player just misses the prior year draft by a day, he would have been the youngest player in that draft, which also needs to be taken into account.

In comparing prospects for the draft, I consider a 4 month age difference somewhat significant. Over 10 months is highly significant. But all an age difference means is higher expectations. If Matthews dominates at Michigan he should be the #1 pick no question.

Sure, but if Matthews were eligible this summer, he's the 3rd overall pick. He's dominating at the U18, more so than Barzal and Zacha and whomever.

I havent really seen any dominating from him, more than Barzal, Laine, Puljujärvi etc.. Sure, he did crush couple lower tier countrys in tournament, but so would have rest of the big ones also.

IF he continues dominating in these games that matter, then i believe you, until that, he hasnt yet show any "dominating"

Before you go showing stats or points, let's look that A-group seems to be alor weaker this year than B-group. Even Sweden seems to have weaker team this year?

Let's play with stats a little..

If we take out the blowout against Germany; (Also taking games off from others against "weaker" countrys)
Auston got 3 + 3, in three games, against Rus (0+0) Swe (1+0) and Slo (2+3)
Laine got 3+2, in three games, against Cze (1+2) Sui (1+0) and Can (1+0)
Puljujärvi got 1+3, in three games, against Cze (0+2) Sui (1+0) and Can (0+1)
Barzal got 3+4, in three games, against Sui (2+1) Cze (0+2) and Fin (1+1)

Did you not watch the Russia game or something? He literally created more scoring chances himself then the entire Russian team had.

I've seen highlights..

Yea, he's been good, in that game were dominating russian players, but my point was that he's not dominating more than those i mentioned.

Dont get me wrong, im not saying he isnt a beast or anything, just trying to hold some horses here.

Two goals today in a 7-2 win over Czech Republic. The Coyotes are just the eternal target of sick jokes by the hockey gods.

The highlights don't do him justice. Matthews tore apart Russia but Samsonov was brilliant.

I guess his two goals against a Czech team that Canada had trouble with mean nothing too.
