That's because one of these is the hairstyle of a distinguished gentleman and the other is your 10 year old cousin.

Also because one of them doesn't have a picture of themselves dressed as a pink unicorn

For some reason, I may be way off though, but I always think of Laine (potentially a bit of Eichel too) vs Matthews as;
The big game type, rise to the moment: all out and lots of flash.
vs.
The more cerebral, strike when the moment is there: all around and varied attack/defend.

The quarter horse and the thoroughbred. Both have the ability to punish teams in their own way.

I wouldn't put a ton of stock into HF's grading.

RNH was a 9.0 B & Yakupov was a 9.0 C

Other people have covered it but bench press really isn't what matters, appreciate that you actually did try to bring facts to the table unlike most posters though.

His leg strength and core strength are much more important, and Eichel may be stronger but I don't think it's significant. There is a reason Matthews comes out of the corners with the puck.

Eichel is a hell of a talent though, best thing about hockey is we're spoiled that we get to continually watch talented young players join the league.

Eichel's vertical jump height was super good as well. He'd have been in top 3 for the 2016 draft, Matthews wasn't on the top 10 list posted. The same holds true for standing long jump, Eichel would have been top 3 and Matthews isn't in top 10.

Really, I think that this is pretty well documented using the information we have available to us.

Note that Eichel did beat McDavid on just about everything as well but I'd definitely consider McDavid the better player. However, I wouldn't say that McDavid is stronger than Eichel, which is what this was all about.

I'm excited to watch the Leafs this year. I'm sure their top kids will have some growing pains early on but it's going to be a treat watching Matthews.

Matthews, Nylander, Marner will be very exciting to watch. Hopefully guys like Carrick, Brown and Leivo get a decent shot too. I'm with you, I'm not overly optimistic of this season, I know we'll suck, but it will forsure be refreshing to watch some exciting hockey.

The facts say Eichel had outstanding combine numbers which would have dominated both his and Matthews draft class. No one was making a judgement about what will happen or what's more important. I simply stated that the reason Eichel got a B rating instead of a C like McDavid was because of his strength and man child build. Having strength doesn't mean punching people in the head like was also mentioned, it also isn't a guarantee of a great career, it does however open opportunities for players by allowing them to be hard to push around and simply overpower because one player is 18/19 and the other is a 10 year NHL vet who hits the weight room every day.

It was posted before but here's a reminder for everyone thinking Eichel isn't that much stronger or that Matthew's is actually bigger then him.

My post wasn't intended to be Matthews hate, I want him to be good and think he has all the tools, but sometimes it's good to actually listen to what people are trying to say instead of taking everything so personal. It's like an echo chamber in here where everyone would rather get their hair up than discuss the prospect the threads about. There's no need to get defensive when someone is asking for everyone's opinion and one you don't like is given.

P.S. here are the combine comparables I could find, for some more facts.

bench press - Matthews 6 Eichel 16
standing jump - Matthews 106" Eichel 115"
Vertical jump Matthews 21.102" Eichel 26.18"
pro agility L - Matthews 4.48 Eichel 4.48
pro agility R - Matthews 4.52 Eichel 4.24
Vo2 max duration. Matthews ?? Eichel 12:15
Grip Right hand Matthews ?? Eichel 176

Not that I disagree with anything you said, but it should be noted those pictures were taken when Matthews was about 18 and a half and Eichel was nearly 20. Rielly and Nylander are the Leafs' resident young guy gym rats so I'm sure they can bring Matthews along if that's not his thing.

Agreed, as ijuka even posted, it's just combine numbers. Regardless of whatever Eichel or Matthews put up at a combine, would we still trade them for McDavid? Absolutely.

Eichel had a great combine, he's a naturally gifted athlete and seems to have some great genes.

Eichel vs Matthews should make for some great games for years to come between BUF/TOR.

I agree, combine numbers are by no means the end of the conversation, but they are there for a reason. They give a good baseline and tell teams how much a player has to grow. At the same time they aren't completely useless. At the top of the draft they are far less important but a later pick can increase their standing or get their name in GMs mind with a good combine. I really wasn't even trying to get people upset, I figured the strength factor was just the reason for Jack's B grade, it in no way was definitive proof of Jack being some far superior player.

It's not like Gretzky or Lemieux were benching 400lbs, strength is important for the transition to the NHL though for sure. Far more important than hair cuts or Halloween costumes.

Agreed, I think Ladd and Wilson killed it in their respective combines...good players but didn't mean much ultimately. Think we're pretty much agreed on it. Eichel has some amazing jeans though, he is damned fast.

Why do people feel the need to come into a Matthews thread and try and prop up their teams prospects? Go away

Looking from outside in...I would **** my pants if my fave NT had Eichel and Matthews type guys anchoring the C position for the next 15 years

I really would like a video of Matthews doing some agility drills. A varied one that lasts for tens of seconds. I wonder why these aren't done regularly, I at least would be so interested.

Going even further, the combine tests should just be replaced with skating and puckhandling stuff, like speed and accuracy courses and such things. They'd be far more interesting in my opinion.
