How do the Finnish fans feel about a comparison of Barkov to Olli Jokinen? If he became Jokinen 2.0 would anyone be disappointed?

Like others have already stated, the biggest differences between O. Jokinen and Barkov are the defensive play and work ethic, both in Barkov's favor. I feel much more comfortable comparing Barkov to Mikko Koivu, the competitiveness and work ethic are of a similar caliber. Defensively I see Barkov ending up as valuable as Koivu, but offensively Barkov's potential is higher.

I would want to create new debate.

How will play of Mikael Granlund affect on Barkov Jrs rankings? Does it at all?

If it affects Barkov's ranking in any way, it shows a lack of professionalism from the scouts.

Yeah, I'd like to think that scouts don't look at other individual players solely based on their nationality. I guess you might have an argument about success in FEL translating into success in NHL, but again, would be ridiculous to base anything on just one player's performances.

I'm personally more curious about Barkov's chances breaking into Finland's WHC roster next spring, as NHL players should be completely out of question. Are underage players even allowed to play in men's World Championships?

Yes, Granlund tried to crack into finnish WC roster in his draft year and Nino played for swiss in his draft year. I think that Barkov is going to get camp invite.

You mean, if Granlund doesn't get it going in the NHL in his first year? Mikke was quite convincing in the AHL in those few games I saw...

Anyway, it shouldn't matter.

He should definitely rest this week, I hope Rautakorpi thinks the same.

Looks like Rautakorpi's decided to bury his head in the sand. Barkov's playing tonight. This stupidity is going to cost both Barkov and Tappara eventually.

Barkov is still growing height, this might cost him in that department also. Barkov should definitely get some rest at some point before SM-liiga play-offs. I wonder if he'll play in the U18 WC also..

It probably depends on how far Tappara goes in the playoffs. I don't think they'll release him if Tappara's still playing when the camp starts.

Barkov has already played over 50 games this season (including pre-season and various U-20 games), pretty tough load for a 17-year-old.

Having played over 50 games by now would be tough for an adult, not to mention a 17-year-old. Barkov's also played big minutes in most of those games. Has anyone else in the league played as many games by now?

And still 22 regular season games left + possible playoffs and/or 6-7 games in U18.

:shakehead Should have just rested him, even for one game. Though I see everyone else is playing tonight as well. The fact that there was no jet lag to recover from, may have eased the fatigue a little.

Yeah, the relegation round games must've been less tiring than, say, a bronze metal game against Canada, too. I'm sure if it were up to Barkov he'd play in every game possible and then some, which is exactly why the coaching staff should be there to calm him down and let him rest once in a while.

Not all of them are playing. Granlund, Nykopp, Armia, Lindbohm, Lamberg, Pokka and Ristolainen are (in addition to Barkov). That's two 4th liners and three dmen. Armia and Granlund are the only top 6 players besides Barkov.

Teräväinen, Salomäki, Leino, Salminen, Lehkonen and Riikola aren't playing. At least Teräväinen, Lehkonen and Salomäki would be on their teams' lineup if they weren't resting.

I think TT is playing in Mestis actually. Gets a nice recovery workout right there.

But were they 18 at the time or only 17 like Barkov?

Barkov's playing time today was 17.33 when his avarage is 19.31 and games before wjc he played over 21 minutes.
