Played 11 games for us last season. Was the best player for us in the prospect showcase. He’s a mammoth defensive center. 6’7, 240. Pretty smooth skater for his size. Not an enforcer like his size might suggest he could be. The hope is he becomes a Brian Boyle style player. Has a chance to make the NHL roster to start the season, but it’ll be difficult. Should still see NHL games this season, regardless, and likely more than last season. Done pretty well so far for round 6.

Brian Boyle would be a good outcome.

But why the heck was an almost 24 year-old with NHL experience playing in a prospects tournament against mostly teenagers who'll never sniff the NHL?
He has played 11 games in the NHL and has only played 1 year in North America.

He was drafted in 2019 (he's old for his draft class). The Flyers had several players of similar age. Massimo Rizzo, originally drafted by Carolina in 2019, and Nick Capone and Jacob Gaucher who are both on AHL contracts.

They left Rempe off the team, probably to avoid a sideshow, and there are only so many other players they can send. The Rangers have traded away a number of picks in recent years, so they don't have as many younger prospects. Over the last 3 years, the Rangers have selected 15 players. 7 of those 15 are in the NCAA and thus weren't available to play. Therefore, the bulk of the team is made up of players who were drafted in 2021 or earlier, and guys on AHL contracts or PTOs.

Had 1+1 last night from the fourth line. Got some PK time too and played physical. I hope he makes the team and they demote Brodzinski or trade Vesey or something.

I’d waive Brodzinski over moving Vesey at what you get a 4th round pick if lucky,. At least Vesey can score 10 goals on the 4th line and PK and play with some grit. He is better than Brodzinski even as a depth player.

Made the team, will start on the fourth line, and was the best rookie in training camp.

What does he bring to the table in the lineup? Last season I see he played 11 games with only 2 pims but 30 hits. Is he just a strictly 4th liner that will play very limited mins with his other twin tower Rempe and make things miserable for the other team type thing??? Or is there a untapped added element to his game that could allow him moving up the lineup at all?

He has more offensive touch than Rempe, but it would be unlikely that he scores enough to play on the third line. He's not going to get involved in a lot of fights, he hits a lot but not going to try to decapitate someone with a hit, a lot more in control of his body and better four way mobility (Rempe is faster in a straight line). He doesn't have the defensive faults of Rempe. He's pretty responsible defensively, and then being a giant with solid skating helps.

This is a hot topic with Rangers fans. I believe they can coexist and it doesn't need to be an "either/or" situation, but they might not be, so camps have emerged. I think most people believe Edstrom is the slightly better hockey player currently and without all the circus. But Rempe is two years younger, so a longer runway to improve from where he currently is, and has an it-factor type of persona that Edstrom doesn't.

Wow thanks for that… ya I’ve been intrigued by Edstrom but just unsure what fans feel he will eventually become
