Played 11 games for us last season. Was the best player for us in the prospect showcase. He’s a mammoth defensive center. 6’7, 240. Pretty smooth skater for his size. Not an enforcer like his size might suggest he could be. The hope is he becomes a Brian Boyle style player. Has a chance to make the NHL roster to start the season, but it’ll be difficult. Should still see NHL games this season, regardless, and likely more than last season. Done pretty well so far for round 6.

Brian Boyle would be a good outcome.

But why the heck was an almost 24 year-old with NHL experience playing in a prospects tournament against mostly teenagers who'll never sniff the NHL?
He has played 11 games in the NHL and has only played 1 year in North America.

He was drafted in 2019 (he's old for his draft class). The Flyers had several players of similar age. Massimo Rizzo, originally drafted by Carolina in 2019, and Nick Capone and Jacob Gaucher who are both on AHL contracts.

They left Rempe off the team, probably to avoid a sideshow, and there are only so many other players they can send. The Rangers have traded away a number of picks in recent years, so they don't have as many younger prospects. Over the last 3 years, the Rangers have selected 15 players. 7 of those 15 are in the NCAA and thus weren't available to play. Therefore, the bulk of the team is made up of players who were drafted in 2021 or earlier, and guys on AHL contracts or PTOs.
