https://prospectshockey.wordpress.com scouting report.

Aapeli Rasanen is an intelligent, two-way centre with a strong work ethic.
A player who argubably makes his biggest impact on the defensive side of the puck, Aapeli Rasanen is quietly developing a quality two-way game.

A decent skater with average speed and mobility, Rasanen won’t blow you away with elite straight line speed.
However he is still an effective skater who gets around the ice well and is by no means hindered by his lack of high end skating abilities.

In possession Rasanen shows deceptively strong vision which allows him to create offense for both himself and his teammates.
With an impressive array of shots, Rasanen possesses both a high end snap shot and a strong wrist shot while his slap shot which he uses infrequently is also fairly strong.

Despite his vision and intrigue shot selection, Rasanen does possesses limited offensive creativity and an inability.
To really generate offense for himself, which will likely hinder his long term offensive upside as a potential top six forward.

With that being said Rasanen does show excellent awareness and strong hockey sense which allows him to thrive on the defensive side of the puck.
Rasanen is able to anticipate passes and get his stick in the lanes to deflect or intercept pucks.
He clogs the shooting lanes and competes hard in puck battles.

Rasanen’s defensive instincts should allow him to thrive as a check centre in European pro leagues.
However his current skill set should allow him to be an effective top six forward at the major junior junior level.

Looks to be developing into reliable two-way center.

Very good two way forward indeed. Seems to have excellent hockey sense and crazy will for winning. Also excellent in face-offs. Very interesting player again developing for Finland. :)

Kemppainen didn't show any offensive talent until he was 25.

This is very true. And Räsänen is much smaller than Kemppainen. I don't think he will be growing much anymore (at least height). Maybe some similarities otherwise, but looks to me like maybe a bit more balanced talent.

Unfortunately I have not seen Kemppainen play as 18 years old (at least I don't remember seeing him). So I am only comparing Räsänen now to the already more mature Kemppainen, which is not really fair towards Räsänen. This kind of comparing shouldn't even be done really, although it's done all the time at hfboards. The only correct way to compare a prospect to a mature player, is to remember and understand what kind of a player the mature player was at the same age that the prospect is right now.

Um ok. I just somehow got a lot of Kemppainen feeling watching him yday. Tho I havent seen Joonas that much, or Räsänen.
Still though I've been dissapointed on Vesalainen and Räsänen. Glad atleast Räsänen proved me wrong yday.

Iivari Räsänen is regarded as one of the top 2001 born Finnish prospects right now, maybe even 2nd best after Leevi Aaltonen. So yeah, he could and should be considered a top prospect for now.

I would consider at least Kaapo Kakko, Aapo Holtinkoski, Henri Nikkanen and Wiljami Myllylä prospects with more upside in long-term. Räsänen has to improve his passing and skating. I'm not counting Räsänen out but when I saw him play this season, he never really stood out. I wouldn't consider him 2nd best Finnish prospect in his age-group.

Someone needs to update this thread :D
Was one of the better forwards for Finland once again. Very defensively responsible and a wizard on the dot (FO% 64,5). He was the top FO% guy in last years U20 and in the U18 the year before. This year he is second only to Mikhail Maltsev, but Räsänen has taken 104 faceoffs compared to Maltsev's 58. He showed some great poise for playing in the front of the net. At that rate of scoring he could be an NHL player with that talent alone (add to that his defensive smarts and superior FO skills and EDM has a great prospect here).

He has the versatility, smarts and, most of all, character, to be a really good fourth liner in the NHL in a few years. A new and improved Letestu :sarcasm:

I would go more for a third line guy at least. I think he has what it takes for that. Skill to play the defensive-offensive balance as the 3C and if injuries occur, even sub in as 2C for short periods. Like Eakin type player.

With Maltsev not getting it done during Russia's last game, Räsänen moves to the top place for FO% (disregarding players with just a few odd FOs)
