Necas is matching the production for half the cap hit and looks a better fit for the Avs speed game. Think the Avs knew Rantanen goes as Mack goes. Shrewd move.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Carolina flip Rantanen before the TDL if he keeps trending this way and the team can't lock in an extension.

If I was a cup winning 100 point center, asking for big money in a rising cap world and got shipped to Carolina all of a sudden, I could see how that sudden change would tank my season.

This idea Rantanen was a biproduct of MacKinnon is crap. He has produced at a high level on the Avs without Mac as well as with him. He’s not gelling in Carolina yet, but it’s a small sample and a lot of guys struggle to adapt to mid season move, especially when blindsided by the trade.

He's a winger, and regardless of Rantanen's Carolina situation, it seems the Avs identified Necas as a player who could at least keep pace with Rantanen's production. Added Drury to the bottom 6 depth chart, and increased their cap space by roughly 7m this off season to fill out the roster. Early days, but the general consensus is that Colorado would be worse off from the trade, which hasn't been the case.

Not sure they thought Necas would keep pace with Rantanen, so that would be a bonus.
They knew they weren't going to pay Rantanen the money he wanted.
They also got a player 3rd./4th. liner in the deal.

And they still have Landeskog hovering around the team, working towards a $7mm return.

In a way, Avs knows who is their MJ and Pippen which is Mack and Makar. Rantanen is like BJ Armstrong and Grant. Good players but replaceable

Mikko Rantanen will not play this afternoon against the Utah Hockey Club as the Finn has been ruled out with a lower-body injury.

The assumption is that Rantanen was injured by a Brent Burns shot Thursday night in Minnesota. Late in the third period, Burns' shot struck Rantanen in the knee as the forward battled for positioning in front of the Wild net, hobbling the winger.

Interesting that Car exploded today without Rantanen.

I just think it's going to take awhile to gel together.

I was wondering how well he would fit in a Brind’ Amour system and without Mack. That’s a much different working environment. Also wonder how enthusiastic he’d be to stay long term if he can’t get in a groove at some point.
An interesting situation to watch play out.

I wish there was a dislike button for this..
Leafs scored 6 against Calgary without Mitch and one goal was disallowed. They scored 3 vs a crappy Seattle team with Marner and Knies' goal would have been disallowed if they had the proper camera angle.

Tampa wins again.
No need to panic. We've been guaranteed that the Leafs will win the Atlantic and the Stanley Cup.
