QB is going to be an absolute monster in his prime
It's fine.Good thing he signed that contract that gives the Kings his prime... Oh, Oh no.![]()
It's looking like the cap is going to go up a lotttttt over the next 3-4 years. He still hasn't cracked anything more than a low 20g/55pt season. I can't see Byfield coming close to being the highest paid player in the NHL, but a 10mil range if he keeps his progression going is plausible.
I see it all as relative. You compare the current stars and what their cap hit is vs. what the cap was at the time of their signing. The best in the league are signing between 14%-16% of the total cap. It's looking like the cap is going to go up a lotttttt over the next 3-4 years.
The going rate for point per game first line centers might be $14-15m by the time Byfield's current contract is up.
Personally, I think he's going to be a top 15-20 player in the NHL in his prime. So I'm imagining his next contract will be quite hefty but of course I could be completely wrong on that.
One of the DUMBEST narratives that infected this board (and there's a lot of them) was that Byfield was essentially a 'bad' pick by Blake, Stutzle better, Yannetti full of shit, bust, etc.FYI Kopi has scored more even strength points in a season than Byfield has this season only 4 times. Once this kid is on PP1 permanently and he gets his FO% over 50%, he's going to be elite. He's already the best penalty killer on the team and has shown that he can match up against the top centers in the league in line matchups and more than hold his own.
It wasn’t dumb, the concerns were understandable and I get why people prefer(ed) Stutzle. I say that as someone that had (and still has) Byfield at 1OA for that draft. One of the DUMBEST narratives that infected this board (and there's a lot of them) was that Byfield was essentially a 'bad' pick by Blake, Stutzle better, Yannetti full of shit, bust, etc.
People are just so goddamn impatient....

Of course it was dumb, and it's not understandable when you are talking about passing judgement on a kid who was barely of age to buy a drink. It wasn’t dumb, the concerns were understandable and I get why people prefer(ed) Stutzle. That's why I am giving this song to everyone for their birthday.A little patience would have been welcome but some people simply do not have it.

Then you know what you have to do .....Ok
I hate it when they leave out the last part of this song on the radio.
One thing I wonder about is relative points scored in the Kings system versus elsewhere. We spoke about it for years with Kopitar, and I’m wondering what point output you’d expect from a fully realized Byfield. Maybe 25G, 50A? A working power play and regular deployment could help bump that up too.
It’s actually kind of interesting that in the year the Senators became a stalwart defensive team that Stutzle is now just under a point per game pace. You could argue Travis Green’s teams play similarly to the McClellan-Hiller hybrid we have.
How much has he improved defensively? Because granted, I don't watch him as much anymore. But usually players coaches count on defensively are ones they will put on the penalty kill.Stutzle has improved defensively, and will continue to do so, just as most young players do. Generally teams have them develop as a confident offensive player and then work on the defense, because it’s a lot easier to teach someone to defend than it is to teach them to score.
The Kings did this during their last rebuild, and most teams handle their top offensive players the same way Ottawa did with him, because it’s a proven successful development model.
I think Stutzle gets underrated around these parts, he’s improved defensively, and is still a 75-80 point center, people bring up the ES points but also don’t mention the fact that he’s facing top checkers and defenders every night, when teams play Ottawa he is the focal point of those teams defensive efforts, and he has been since he was a teenager, very similar to the way Kopitar was as a young player. When people play the Kings, their top checkers are usually going against whatever line Adrian Kempe is on, it makes a big difference.
Gartner is Stutzle and Anderson is Byfield in your comparison?Who was a better player Mike Gartner or Glenn Anderson?
