Wouldn’t post this if not for the bye, but I’m curious about so many screen names.

Obviously some are just variations of peoples names, other basic info, or players names, but what about the more intriguing ones?

Mine is a simple combination of a nickname given to me as a baby and my HS graduation year.

I was the 4th Albert (uggh!) and the other three were still alive when I was born.

My dad was a sergeant in the national guard when I was born and my great grandmother saw how much I looked like him and said….”it’s a little sergeant“.

So it stuck and instead of being a “junior” or “A.J.” everyone called me “Sarge” straight through HS, including teachers and coaches.

Really only people at work or those I’ve become friends with as an adult call me Al.

Also, if yours is in reference to a TV show, movie, band, etc. don’t assume everyone gets it.

lol

Came up with this name probably close to 20 years now.
First on CBC who had a plain unmoderated site. Then moved to Sportsnet.
Then off to Metroboards ( of which I do believe HF was morphed from)
Then I landed here on HF once Metroboards deteriorated.

The name is to honor Bobby Orr.

Norris....Norris Trophy.
Orr....
8......8 times Bobby won it.....nORRis8

Mine is pretty easy.

“r” is the first letter of my first name, and “fournier” is my last name. I’m a member of IBEW Local 103, so that’s where the 103 comes from.

My screen name has NOTHING to do with former NHL referee and Montreal radio host Ron Fournier. I’ve gotten numerous questions about that over the years, but I had never even heard of him until I came here and had already chosen my screen name.

When we traded Phil Esposito, I was a despondant kid. My father insisted we won the trade and kept telling me that Joe Zanussi was the difference. I always thought it was cool that he was so excited about a guy I had never heard of.…or maybe he was just trying to make his son feel better. So now I often use the name as a password, screen name, etc…

That's a great story. I remember being despondent when we traded Espo too. I also remember being pretty upset when we traded Barry Pederson! Shows what I know...

I'm a big Pearl Jam fan, and back in 02, I was listening to one of their live albums while trying to think of a cool name for the board. My GF at the time walked in and said " what's Vedder ranting about this time? " And thus, VeddarRants was born ( complete with unintentional misspelling of the last name ).

I changed my name to PB37 a few years back because like everyone else, I love the man and player.
