I'm still playing NHL 17, year 2038 of my Be a GM.

I may be buying 2020 when the price goes down the drain.

EA can suck it up, at some point I bought all of them, each and every year.

Good thing they're crashing down.

I really enjoy when I go on the breakaway with a player like McDavid or Larkin...

and a plug 3rd pairing D-man catches up skating backwards.

I will probably end up buying it but like most here... I’ll buy it when it’s on sale.

I'll probably pick it up when it's $30 or less. They don't make enough changes to justify the full price tag. Also, the gameplay in NHL 19 is so bad it makes me very hesitant to grab NHL 20.

Full price? Never. Once it goes on sale after they realize they released another terrible game, then I'll buy it.

I'm skipping the whole PS4 generation so I won't buy NHL 20. There's basically only 5-6 games that I really want from that generation, and I've still got my PS1, PS2 and PS3 collection (more than 600 games total) to go to if I'm in need of gaming. Real-life is also a never-ending source of entertainment and quite time-consuming, so there you have it.

A couple of years from now, when the PS5 rears its ugly head, I'll get myself the console and the corresponding NHL game, even though they basically re-hash the same stuff year after year.

Don't expect me to pay the full retail price though, as the simple idea of paying 80$ for a product made by EA Sports makes me want to hurl and punch everything around me at the same time, those unfair competition-squashing, monopolistic, shit-game-developing bass turds...

Unless something drastic changes in be a pro, hut, or franchise, i think I’d rather save the $80 this year. Maybe I’ll wait for the Boxing Day sale to grab it

The last two I bought were NHL 13 and 15. I recently played NHL 19 via Xbox GamePass, and it didn't feel like there were any drastic changes. I even jumped in to 3-on-3 online and did well despite not having played in years.

I'd rather just play last years for free, than spend a dime on what is essentially a yearly roster update.

The huge issue is that there isn't much they can do in terms of changes. Console sports games are pretty much maxed out. They can improve gameplay physics every couple seasons but besides that, it's pretty limited in new features. Sports games are what they are at this point. The time to be innovative from year to year has come and gone, technology advances aren't as huge as they were in the late 90s and early 00s.

Not necessarily true, they can change the in game cutscenes, they can change the commentary which it took them 6 years to do, they can change animations etc..

Simply because there aren't any other options I will buy this... However, based off the beta (which I understand didn't incorporate all the new features) is a complete let down and I'm not excited at all to make the purchase. Maybe I'll wait until Black Friday this year.

Also...STOP PLAYING HUT!

The crazy part about the NHL franchise is that they do roster updates like three times a year whereas NBA 2K does it daily. I'm not even asking for daily updates but there is no reason it isn't done at least weekly

Yes but I'm buying a new copy off of Kijiji on the release day.

Theres always a guy or two who have their hands on multiple packaged copies for $60 off the bat. I've been doing this now.

They usually do updates every 2 weeks during the regular season with major updates (ratings adjustments, updates to CHL/Europe) usually every 2 months.

Weekly would be nice but I personally care more about how awful their attribute ratings are than frequency of roster updates (I’d probably care more if I played Online Versus more often).

Looking like a big fat no so far. Their main feature is some fancy shot that they replicating from 3 players... They are so far behind Madden and NBA 2k series its beyond sad.
NBA 2k?

LMAO it got terrible rartings the last two years. The game is broken, they sold it it to me for 5 bucks and a free subway sandwich,

Yes I will be buying NHL 2020, I ended up getting NHL 19 and I have gotten every NHL game since 1994. So forget it I'll just end up getting this one. Definitely not on on release date. It looks better then NHL 19 so I have hope.

On the fence. I may just rent it at first and then make a decision. I've done that in the past when I think EA has not made enough improvements.
you can rent games still in detroit?

daaaaaamn son.

.... guess will not make much diffrence. Same as the scouting system last year. First two years doesn’t need this scouting system and turned it off cause have very good knowledge about existing prospects, also created more than 200 hundred missing players. So it’s useless for me cause playing all 82 games NHL and AHL with 7min period including Play Offs and this takes me a lot of time. So much more than two seasons I do not play. A main pointbto buy would be Roster sharing, better options to create players, Face scan and pic upload from PC to account and missing player and a Goalie mask creator app. All these things as I know will not come. The 95% generic bot faces are a joke in this game. No other popular Sport game has this mess faces.
Wait a second..you play all the AHL games too?

I never even knew people like you existed.

Respect

This was the first year I played NBA 2k on this generation. Outside of microtransactions, which the NHL series is doing its damndest to catch up on the NHL series is an absolute joke of a sports game through and through in comparison. NHL still hasn't re added features from NHL 13. Only reason NBA bombed in ratings because there is straight up nothing else they can add as a feature. You can be commissioner and propose rule changes ffs. NHL cant even get IR and NTC added when they had NTC in what, NHL 08 or something.

But yeah, NHL 19 is better than NBA 2k19 lmao. Get over your NBA inferiority complex already hfboards... Not to mention NBA was ratings bombed on metacritics and has 3x amount the user reviews as NHL series.

This is a terrible approach - "There's nothing else so I'll accept the mediocrity of EA and purchase the game". Ah, yes, that will help the cause in applying pressure for them to adapt and actually produce a legitimate product. And then you tell others to stop playing HUT (spending MTX money), but you're just as much of a problem as those players.

In your post, you literally state that you aren't satisfied with the product and not excited about it. So don't spend your money on it. Consumers need to realize that they have the power and it comes in the form of paper 2.61 inches wide and 6.14 inches long.

I don't disagree with your comment at all, my method is a bit ridiculous...However, there is absolutely no pressure being applied to EA. No competition = no pressure. Me spending or not spending $15 on it months after it releases isn't going to do anything either. I still think HUT is a huge problem, but until there is serious competition, we aren't going to see a massive improvement. When you are the sole source of hockey gaming, you get away with everything. If thousands of people boycott the purchase of the game, I'll join, but that isn't going happen.

All true. I guess the best option is to hope that most of the individuals that purchase the game are patient and don't spend the full retail price on this game. An actual boycott, like you said, isn't going to happen, but we can still hurt EAs pockets by not rushing out on 9/13 and buying it.

IIRC, EA doesn't have exclusive rights to NHL licensing. It'd be a power move if 2K could keep an NHL game development under wraps and then announce it around the time EA does for their yearly product. I'd imagine lots of people would purchase that game just because of their hatred for EA.
