People are way too negative here. I think it's because we all had the best NHL gaming days as younger when everything in life felt much better. Now we have seen hockey games and they don't excite the same way as they used to - no matter how good the game is.

I tried NBA 2k19 but 5 minutes of that was enough. FIFA is better than that but still boring. NHL 20 will be a game that I'll probably play decent amount of time. It won't be experience like NHL 2000, 2004 or even 09 were but it will be a decent video game experience.

I won't be buying it this year. Just got into to EHM and I love it, much more suitable for someone who just wants to play solo. I also find that of the Sports games NHL usually feels the least realistic; I think that just comes down to the fact that Hockey is the hardest sport to replicate. The video games always feel sluggish to me.

I really shouldn't... I haven't played NHL 19 since October, just got too busy with life...

but every year, dogs start barking and I buy the new one... been that way since 1993, expect for a few years when this limewire thing helped save money while I was at school.

Maybe this year I can just print out a new cover, slide it in the case and trick myself I've already bought it. Maybe.

The huge issue is that there isn't much they can do in terms of changes. Console sports games are pretty much maxed out. They can improve gameplay physics every couple seasons but besides that, it's pretty limited in new features. Sports games are what they are at this point. The time to be innovative from year to year has come and gone, technology advances aren't as huge as they were in the late 90s and early 00s.

This is simply untrue. VR technology is closer than ever before to mass integration and adoption. That is the next "big thing" and it will be big.

Why not buy something like franchise hockey manager instead?

EAs franchise mode is so bad

I agree. I have been playing HLM19 on android over NHL 19 since I bought it. Probably will wait until NHL20 is 9.99 or lower on the PlayStation store as the franchise mode has been crap for so long.

I tried HLM19 and it's pretty awesome for an android game, I like that they keep updating it consistently

What is that?

Pretty much a GM only Hockey game with a ton of leagues/players (real ones too) I've been playing since Franchise Hockey Manager 2 and it's become a yearly buy for me, it can be so in depth, more than any EA title to date, highly recommend it now as it's dropped in price.

I have over 700 hours on this game this year alone, It's the type of game that you could play for hours and not realize it

Since NHL 94 I've gotten every release except for NHL 96, NHL 99, NHL 05, and NHL 16.

Yes I'm getting NHL 20. I'll stop buying them for good when EA finally abandons the offline modes that don't make them money like Season and Franchise but until then they've still got their hooks in me.

Just sign up for EA Access

$4.99 a month or $29.99 per year. They released NHL 19 for free on it last year toward the end of the season. Yeah, you have to wait, but its a big savings if you like to buy the game every year, and you also get access to the new Madden, NBA Live, FIFA annual releases, as well as some other big releases.

Nope.

I've gotten 18 and 19 on the cheap but this year i have no need with Borderlands 3, Monster Hunter's new expansion AND Destiny 2's expansion all coming out within a month of chel.

I'd rather put my money towards decent games (especially now that Activision is out of the picture with Destiny)

I said no and have no plans on purchasing this game. Have NHL 18 and its a total bunch of junk and have invested way too much time playing it. I have gone back and started playing MLB the SHow 17 again cause i'm too cheap to buy new games every year. I enjoy it and does not get annoying. Plus the Offline Franchise mode is way more indepth than what is in NHL 18. Even has a trade finder where you can request prospects, etc to try and find what you are looking for. Only way ill even play it is if some one were to gift it to me. I only use it for the offline Franchise mode anyways. SO all this CHEL and other BS is a waste for me.

I will likely buy it to hold me over until COD or if I am craving some online team play. I haven't paid to much attention to the game this year honestly, but if it's like in 19 were I can only play in a jersey in club games and have to play outdoor drop ins, the game won't see much time in my PS4.

As a Devils fan, yes. Having an updated roster with pictures and names (Hughes, Gusev, Smith, etc) is sort of a big reason.

As a HUT player, i'm not buying it because I always seem to get the feeling that i'm supposed to pay a monthly fee to play the game mode to play any of the content they add. Just the feeling of being cheated for purchasing the game for full price. If it was Free to Play, i'd have no issue

The game probably won't have anything new to offer but the thing is I don't really need any new fancy thingies. As long as it has HUT I'm down to buying it. I don't play a lot and only mode I really play is HUT so I am not after GM connected and whatnots. NHL19 was breathe of fresh air with the new skating and it was just enough to keep me playing when I got the time. I enjoy grinding the market and challenges and made to D1 with my limited time. So yes, I will be buying it.

NBA 2k18 was good enough for me to realize exactly how bad the NHL series is.

dude same exact thing with me. I bought 2k18 as my first NBA game ever, and even though I don't love the NBA nearly on the level that I love the NHL I was blown away. there is just so much more life to the game than the NHL games
