The Windsor Star reported that the picks were conditional on Afanasyev playing for Windsor.

"As for the only player to come to the Spitfires in Tuesday’s trade, the six-foot-two, 190-pound Afansyev is up for the 2019 NHL Draft and has a verbal commitment to Michigan State University, but Rychel is hopeful.

“There’s a slight chance he’ll come this year, but I’m very positive getting him for September,” Rychel said. “I feel good about him being a Spitfire in 2019-20.”

Should Afansyev report, all three conditional picks in Tuesday’s trade will return to the 67’s."

With regards to value on one season, it's tough to say. Windsor had a solid club before COVID-19 hit and may have won a round. However, we'll never know.

So if we relate this to JUST picks, it is Dipietro and a 4th for:

4x 2nds
2x 3rds.

There is that extra 2nd for DiPietro but with the 4th going the other way, that somewhat makes up for the extra 3rd. That leaves the extra 4th and 5th that Leenders garnered. You could say Leenders went for a higher return than DiPietro.

I would say Leenders was an overpay. He’s a good goalie and there was two years of service but I think most would suggest that was a pretty heavy return.

Agreed. It might have been a "you want him, this is the cost" situation but he doesn't have DiPietro's numbers yet. They could have removed a second and a third and still been a very solid return.

Yup. I agree. I was shocked at that deal to be honest.

Brantford was building for a two season run. So, from their perspective, they needed a goalie and wanted a top goalie for two seasons and were willing to pay for him. In this case, they likely overpaid for him.

The problem is they have now set the new bar. That is where the George discussions would start this year if OS were to look at the possibility.

As I said previously, the only risk really for OS waiting until next year is if they change the OA rule to allow teams to roster an OA goalie as an extra OA. Otherwise, the DiPietro deal would be the benchmark, assuming George hangs on as the #1 starter with Team Canada for a medal, preferably Gold. The fact that OS is weak and he won’t get any sort of playoff run is unfortunate. That may be a bit of an issue. If Brampton makes the Finals, they would have a goalie that would be returning next year. If Brampton decides to sell, Ivankovic, with both Team Canada and a Finals appearance woudl unseat George as the higher profile guy.

I doubt London would move Medvedev next year and neither would Brantford with Leenders, so any competition in the market for George would come off the back of Ivankovic. There is ZERO competition for George this year though. He is really the only bonafide non-OA out there “potentially” available. I like Bowen as well but there is a drop off there for sure.

Going off stats alone, I'm not sure OS is ready to have their back-up take over, either. He's had good moments but some questionable ones, too. If I'm OS, I'm setting my price and "you either want to pay or you don't." You never know what could happen next season so, if they keep George now, and something happens next season where a contender needs him... there he goes. Given what I've heard about OS and prices right now, I doubt they're eager to go "here y'all go... enjoy!"

So basically, the difference between Leenders and DiPietro was Afanasyev.

Leenders was dealt for:
3x 2nds
3x 3rds
4th
5th

DiPietro plus a 2nd and 4th was dealt for:
4x 2nds
Conditionals (2nd + 2x 3rds)
Rights to unsigned Afanaseyev

Afanasyev ended up signing with Windsor and played the 2019-20 season with Windsor.

Depending on the value placed on one season of Afanasyev, I would consider the two deals very similar. I believe the conditional picks were a combination of Afanasyev reporting and the 67s winning the OHL Championship. @OHL4Life could probably look up the exact conditions for accuracy.

You’re forgetting that it’s also 6 years ago. Trade inflation is a massive thing. Back then tr best overages went for 2/3 picks. Now they go for 4/5 and a good player

I’m thinking maybe Brampton makes big moves with all the assets… everyone forgetting - you don’t acquire rehkpof and Sova before season starting to do nothing. They’ve had so many injuries. Which it looks like they’re going to get healthy soon. They’ve already added Arlickson - looks lone maybe Konnor smith might be a steelhead aswell. Expect more big moves coming. Dont want to waist Martone either this year.

I think your incorrect if you think George is worth the same as leenders.

IMO George is WAY better

Also if Owen sound gets rid of George they’ll get 10 goals a game scored on them with koprowski

Yes. Next year. The context of the post was whether there would be any competition on the goalie trade market next year and I suggested Ivankovic would be the potential player that lowers the goalie trade values if both goalies hit the trade market.
