Confirmed with Link: Bunting to Nashville

I think the Penguins improved both from Bunting to Novak and Desharnais to Schenn, and it just cost them swapping a 2026 4th for a 2028 5th to do it. Which is a value loss but you're also likely getting better value for Schenn than Desharnais when you trade him.

I'm just a bit curious why they wanted Schenn at his age. Yes, he's an upgrade on Desharnais but he's also 35. If they flip him for more than a 4th (which I bet they could), it would make total sense and it's firmly a great job by Dubas. As is, I think it's just a good deal.

Another lesson learned: keep trading with Nashville because Barry Trotz is an idiot.

My fear is this will be viewed by management as an incremental hockey trade to push to contention ala Perron for Hagelin. The penguins traded bunting, who was injured and not really meshing well with Malkin, for a guy who has been playing wing a decent bit this year. Even if he moves to a bottom six center, he's probably an incremental upgrade over Bunting. Add the fact that Schenn is much more of a proven commodity, and the Penguins just shipped off a young guy who wasn't looking great in the same position, I would find it not so hard to believe the Penguins are still taking a delusional, half-measure, one foot in approach.

Big fan of what Novak can possibly bring from that center position. He’s a decent skill guy that can actually skate.

Tommy Novak is an advanced stat God on some bad Nashville teams. I love this trade even having to take old Schenn.

So thinking about this further, we acquired Joseph from St. Louis for futures, after helping the Blues get the picks required to make the offer sheets to Broberg and Holloway. IF the Blues decide to keep Brayden Schenn since they are pretty close to a wild card slot, maybe Luke Schenn goes to the Blues? They have Parayko and Faulk but after that they have to use left shots on the right side.

I am willing to give Novak a chance to fill a role at center because that is a need for us, but I would be lying if I said I wasn't hoping for a double flip before the deadline after this deal.

...then again re: Bunting, he feels a lot like many other top six-ish wings we've seen come in hot, play with a little edge (if they have a rep for one) and then fade out. Maybe he finds a better game in Nashville and my hate is unjustified IDK. Was a little put off by this move at first but I like it even regardless of what happens with Schenn.

I would like think we’re just trying to pump tires before Friday, but then I remembered we’re run by Mike Sullivan and Kyle Dubas, so they really do probably think Luke Schenn is modern day Rod Langway.

Dreger and Johnston using the same exact words "they like his leadership, character and toughness" makes me think it's more likely that they're both getting fed that from someone.
