Confirmed with Link: Bunting to Nashville

Think this will make more sense shortly.

Or hell maybe not with this team who knows.

Either way... like three intermittent months of good play aside... don't think we're losing much with Bunting.

I would comment about how I kinda wish there wasn't a roster player component to the Jake trade if this is the outcome but I know that triggers the f*** out of a lot of you so I'll refrain.

Yeah I don’t see the upside to this
Novak is a center that a 59 point pace in his last 2 seasons.

The 4th rounder to Nashville makes this deal better but I still don't understand this for them.

I don't like the Novak for Bunting swap for them and I feel they could have gotten more than a 4th rounder if they would have just traded Schenn themselves.

If you move Rakell, you move Malkin to wing. Then you need a new 2C. Enter Novak. I like that kid.

Schenn 100% being flipped.
This is the only explanation that makes sense to me. Rakell is gone. It better be for a damn good return as we’re leaving Crosby with crumbs to play with. Hopefully Beau, Karlsson, and Gryz are out too.

If this is our direction, let it ride with:

Malkin-Crosby-Rust

I guess this is to get better depth at center? Independent of positions I like bunting a hell of a lot more than Novak

I'm the opposite, I love the Bunting for Novak swap. Bunting had really regressed into a PP specialist and wasn't offering anything at 5v5 anymore.

I wouldn't be surprised for them to keep both Novak and Schenn, but Novak feels like a better piece than Bunting. It wouldn't surprise me to see Rakell go and Novak slide to L1 in his spot.

Maybe Schenn is getting flipped somewhere that wouldn't trade with Nashville? Idk, this is a weird one

Tommy Novak for Michael Bunting is suuuuuuuuuch a good trade.
Quite possibly but you’re conveniently forgetting the rest of it lol…Schenn is signed for multiple years at too high AAV for a third pairing guy…and we have to give up the pick? I dunno…I don’t mind selling our cap space but let’s get something good back lol

$2.75m for Schenn (or a bottom pairing d) isn't that much money anymore.

So we moved Desharnais for a 5th and then gave up a similar pick for the same exact player plus Novak.

Plus teams love Luke Schenn. We should be able to get out of that contract within 9 months.

lol…we’ll see…he’s age 35 and signed multiple years…he certainly should help the tank

Bunting as a power play specialist is a luxury now that we have Kevin Hayes on the top PP unit
