Post-Game Talk: Built. Different.

One question. Did you ever doubt the goal would be taken back. We're you sure? My own take is its possible that the goal was going to stand. Its what I felt.

The NHL and most leagues create their own problems when going into interpretive or subjective areas. Did Bennett fall on purpose into Skinner, or was he pushed. Could even be that both occurred, which is more salient precursor.

The trouble is we can't mind read, and the NHL isn't into priors in such reviews and that this isn't a court of law tribunal where you can take weeks or years to make a decision and still get it wrong.

The fact that its interpretive and subjective goes into gray area where you can't be sure.

I mean this isn't even remotely comparable to the Kesler play. just saying.

Maybe the league should review priors but I think its clear they don't do that.

But its further reason why the Oilers shouldn't have challenged. It wasn't going to be a clear outcome.

10/10 nah, You know it isn't that.
This year is different because I think the team understands there's less whining about this.
We can "accidentally-on-purpose" fall on Bob too.

We can test to see who has the better goalie depth if that's the game they wanna play.

Not sure how some of you are able to handle the mains. It's just all Florida bandwagoning and excuses.. yesterday's game was almost a carbon copy of Kings/Oilers game 4.

I get a kick at the pretzel's Vancouver fans will twist themselves into to avoid admitting that maybe the reason the Oilers have gotten this far is that they might be kinda good at hockey.

5v5 goals with Bouchard on the ice are 17-3 Oilers since game 1 against Vegas.

Nobody is talking about him for Conn Smythe when IMO he should be the clear favourite.
He's really cleaned up his game this playoffs. He'll still make the occasional huge booboo like passing directly to the opponent in the slot without looking , but he's positioning himself better all over so it doesn't burn us.

I was thinking about this earlier as I noticed the Panthers attacking Kulak on the wall. What about getting Nurse to slide to the right and play him with Ekholm?
Ekholm Nurse
Kulak Bouchard
Walman Klingberg
That could be the play for sure. I don't think they separate Walman / Klingberg, they were the best pair last night and the numbers backed that up. Nurse / Bouchard can't play together and Kulak / Bouchard have been quite good together. Would depend on Nurse and how he can play on that right side. Could treat that pair as the third pair though and then do some Ekholm / Bouch shifts as needed.

Out of the core 6, and assuming Kulak is playing on his left side, Nurse is the worst breakout man of the group, so he's going to be the one that needs to be the most protected against the Florida forecheck.

also lets spend more time showing STU some love here, if Stu let in that arvidsson goal bob did this whole place would be roasting him for 2 days. he didnt and made huge saves all game long

SSSSTTTTTUUUUUUUU!!!!!
Stu played well last night. If the team had lost the game 3-2 I would have been calling it a team loss instead of blaming him. My posting history clearly shows I blame him a lot too, lol. When Stu is playing badly it’s easy for everyone to see.

Makes me chuckle thinking of every oiler fan here july 1 saying why the hell did we sign 40 year old perry and give him above minimum
I was absolutely one of the doubters. I like Perry but he looked slow and used-up in the finals last year. When we signed him this summer, my literal comment was “why?” I’m overjoyed to have been so very wrong.

He's unreal, it's almost surreal seeing him turn it on the moment the playoffs started like a completely different player. Well maybe not the moment, he still had some of that regular season Bouchard in his game early in the Kings series but wow since.
I know his regular season numbers are actually good but we all know that the eye test didn't match. It certainly does now.

Ekholm Nurse

Nurse is not very good on his natural side, why in god's name would you force him to play on his offside?

If anything i'd bench 25 and run
Ekholm Bouchard
Kulak Stecher
Walman Klingberg

But that will never happen.

TBH i'm so sick of this. We can only have 1 challenge and we need to be penalized if it's wrong because they don't want to slow the game down with "unnecessary stoppages" yet they waste 5 mins of a game by screwing around with all the face-offs....
The amount of time that was wasted after Florida iced the puck last night deserves to be talked about too. For one of them (and it was an issue for most of them) there was almost 3 minutes of time elapsed before the puck was dropped to resume play. Again, there was a lot of manipulation going on last night.

This series is built for guys like Podz, Kapanen, Frederic, Kane. Previous one was more for RNH, Brown, Janmark etc for depth scoring.
Its the time of year that legs are tired. Its why the energizer bunnies or guys that haven't always been in the lineup work this time of year. Janmark usually has legs for a couple series and is done. Last postseason he was hot last rounds. This year he was better in early rounds.

Kapanen is a serious pace player with legs. Him and Podz are causing some problems. That we can and do limit their minutes increases their effectiveness. They can just fly and bring energy shifts when out there.

I don't think Frederic is doing a thing. Sometimes players just do well initially in the league on adrenanline, excitement and being relatively healthy. After years in the league Frederic is not healthier than the opposition. He no longer has that advantage.

Ekblad pair got smoked by Drai's line.

Definitely matches eye test on Nurse/Kulak and the 3rd line. Need some more from that third line. For Nurse, just hope he can keep continuing what happened with him and Broberg last year too. Loads of chances given up, but just hockey god fortunes and Skinner saving him. Didn't get scored on last night 5v5 even though Florida got a lot with him out there, rocking an xGF% of 17.21%.

I have no idea if it's still in the rulebook, but they use to have the rule that puck was dropped x amount of seconds after a whistle. All it took was once for the center not to be at the dot to make teams learn

The whole point is if some were more debatable than others we wouldn't have all these 5 minute reviews and coaches challenges and stuff.
1) They’re ‘more debatable’ when it’s serial offender and known dirtbag Sam Bennett. Same as it would be for Corey Perry, except worse because Bennett has gone after opponents goaltenders in EVERY series of this calendar year. It’s so f***ing obvious at this point.

2) They’re ‘more debatable’ when it’s the Florida Panthers getting away with whatever they want because daddy is up top looking out for them. That sort of blatant conflict of interest should not be allowed in a pro league. Even the appearance of it.

These are facts. They resulted in the dirtbag Panthers having an extra goal on the board last night. You can’t handwave that away because Kane stepped into a scrum where nobody had dropped the gloves and Mikkola immediately fled like the coward he is. Or because you think this is the ‘best hockey we’ll ever see’. Lol.

Literally no winning with leaf fans.

It used to be "He can't win in Edmonton so he's coming home".

Now it's "Hes going to win in Edmonton so he can finally come home".

Bunch of mouth breathers.
All those morons have now is the hope McDavid is going home. It’s taken years longer than it should have but they’ve finally all realized that their team is garbage.

Frederic seems injured still. I've watched him on Boston and he played with plenty more pace, he just doesn't have his skating legs.
I'd insert Skinner into the lineup in place of him. The Oilers have enough physicality without him in the lineup to deal with Florida.

He's been a great part of this run. That said, I would like to see him take a few less bad penalties though. 5 of the last 16 minors taken by players excluding coincidental penalties have been Perry.

One of the mods put me and Oilslick (McDrai hater who claims to be an Oiler fan) on forced ignore so I can't see their posts anymore, but for the sake of laughter I'd love to know if this person is still trying to convince everyone on here that the mains are better because the mods will protect their feelings lol
