I do remember that play and I agree his D instincts are good, however I’m not sure that necessarily makes him good enough to be an every day NHLer if he’s providing nothing offensively as a forward
Understood. That said you need a couple forwards really astute defensively and you hope they can add some goals too. Unfortunately with Janmark not. That breakaway the other game, what a hot mess. misses the net by a yard on a breakaway I think losing the puck.

He robbed Rantanen and then gave up 3 goals on the next 4 shots. Makes one big save in a period and you guys just go "jobs done what more do you want?"

But hey you wont get any disagreement on Emberson from me. I don't get what people see in the player.

He's a younger Cody Ceci but cheaper. I mean we literally saw the Stars roll out the actual Cody Ceci and Dumba as a top 4 pairing tonight. I know they have injuries, so do we.

Idk having a young cheap Ceci paired with Kulak on a revenge tour is fine by me for the bottom pairing.

New Kid(s) In Town:

Walman very impressive debut without a parachute 24:40 min toi, 2:45 pk, awesome stretch pass assist. Max Jones 5 hits, fast energy game on Line 4 with only 7:50 toi. New kid energy reverberated through this line-up as team played fast and hard for forty minutes.

Oil team defending slipped on a banana with the second goal ten seconds after giving up the PP beauty to Rantanen. Weak soft shift by Kulak followed by three Oilers with soft net front coverage. The white knuckle ride was more team mistakes than goaltending with Emberson notably not having a good game but also unlucky with his weak side net coverage getting in the way of a routine Skinner save kicking out the rebound to the boards. Oil ultimately outscored their bad period helped by poor Otter night in the Dallas net. McDavid flying. Hyman scoring one foot blue paint goals again. Arvy finishing on his shot volume approach.

Huge win against a hot elite team. Lots of energy through the lineup

I was told he never made any ;)

the fact he had to make that save shows how porous the defense was in the 3rd

He played a great game but let's not get our hopes up too much haha.

It'll be nice to have another top 4 option as Ekholm starts to age though. Both he and Walman are on expiring contracts next season and I could see the Oilers re-signing both but basically swapping their contracts.
I’m not sure if it’s a good or bad thing that he basically made Nurse look bad because he was so much better.

By my count we're up to like what 5 times on the year in 64 games?

A lot of effort for something that might happen once more on the year.

Doesn't that make it just that bit more satisfying when it does happen?

But point taken, I'll probably file it as a "in-case-you're-sick" to-do folder.

Stetcher is a very nice #7 to have as well. If you wanted a different look he can easily swap in and out with Emberson.

Complaining about Skinner tonight is insane. One complete fluke and three goals he had no shot on. He literally did the thing everyone says he can’t do, which is make the big, athletic save on a sure goal.

Can still think he sucks, and acknowledge he did his job tonight.

Walman looked awesome, looking forward to watching him hopefully for a few years. Seems like an exciting player.
I don’t think too many are complaining about Skinner. I know I, and I think others, were complaining about Gregors post after the second period which was a jinx. Similar to calling a shutout with a period left to go.

All because he had to prove to the world how smart he was with his bias goaltending analysis.

Yep absolutely. I mean my concern with Stetcher is that he's undersized. Which could be problematic over a playoff series.

But then you find out that Emberson has been hit the most of any player this year and not by a small margin. So clearly that's probably taken a toll.

So yeah platoon them. Makes sense, baseball season is coming up lol.

I don’t think the defence or the goaltending was bad tonight. The pk is terrible right now. The Benn goal was the only one the defence should’ve been better on.

Despite the stress, the team completely locked it down the last ten minutes. A lot of positives to take from this game, and they will look a lot better with Frederic and Ekholm in. Moving nuge back to the middle is the move.
