To be fair, if there was no off-ice element, this would be highway robbery for Vancouver. You'd be getting the two best players.

But in real life there is off ice element and Kane is a nightmare off the ice and has been that person in two different cities now. And in no world is Kane>Tanev unless your talking about Pat Kane.

More like an annoyance, people sure like using strong words though

Huge no from Vancouver. Would give up one of Tanev /Juolevi for Risto not both. And no thank you to Kane unless Sbisa/Dorsett is going the other way

Risto will be better than either of the Canucks. Canucks need D and cannot afford to give up a starter and their best young D prospect. Neither team likes the deal.

This! How do you not understand your own reasoning when making this proposal? Buffalo would NEVER do this because Vancouver gets the two best players on the ice, which is where hockey games in the NHL are actually won.

Both teams curse 1 another and hang the phone up. Well Buff trys to give us Kane for free but Jim tells Buff to eat his shorts.

No ignorance. He is not better than Ristolainen.

Ok do all of us a favour, don't base your opinion on stats alone, they don't tell the whole story ya know? As a Dman stopping the other team from scoring and keeping the puck out of your end is very important, that's how hockey works bud, did ya know that?

Yeah he's really not better than risto. And if he is it's only for about one more year before he falls behind. Easy pass as a sabres fan.

I'd need to follow Tanev more closely to say yes or no. There's some press out there calling him the best defensive defenseman in hockey. So if I believed the hype, the answer would be yes.

Otherwise, you can take Kane out and the analysis is the same. Risto is our 1D by a wide margin and he's untouchable for any combination of lesser players.

Kane is well on his to having the same value in the marketplace as Zack Kassian....so why would the Canucks trade their best current d-man and their blueline future to acquire him?

Kane is like 7% of the value here

Lets be real, If buffalo called and tried to drop Kane on benning, he'd give up atleast a 5th.

No way from Buffalo's perspective. Ristolainen has #1D potential and showed a lot of what he can do this past season. For those looking at advanced stats, please understand the context which he was used. Bylsma even conceded this off-season that he gave Ristolainen too many tough minutes all season long. His partner was also Josh Gorges.

I'd also not do this right now from Vancouver's perspective. Kane's value is crap right now. Vancouver could use Kane's playing style in their line-up, and he's a LW. But I'm taking Kane on as a risk if I were Benning. Not right now, at least.

If I were Buffalo, hope that the legal situation clears up and it's well in Kane's favor (unfounded charges). Then let him play a season and do well. Then revisit a trade to Vancouver.

I'm tired so I read the proposal like this, thoughts in parentheses

Kane for Tanev
(ok seen that before, wait...)

Kane for Tanev and Juolevi

(wait what!)

Ristolainen and Kane for Tanev and Juolevi

(NO FRIGGEN WAY)

Tanev is underrated and I expect Juolevi to be good, but Risto is the best player in this trade, by a lot probably.

Why Buffalo basically rewinds the clock on defense (to say nothing of the risk Buffalo takes with Juolevi, busting or falling short of expectations) confuses me.
