Probably more of an indictment of Ted Nolan's "team building" outings and Tim Murray basically living at one during his tenure as GM. Just guessing though.
more likely an ode to the days when there were a few gentleman's club around town (or in Ft Erie) where players went for "entertainment".

In the movie Buffalo 66' there is one called 25K Gold which was on Route 5. There was one by the Airport as well. You could also cross to Ft Erie and experience the "Canadian Ballet".

The best though was when the kids from Canada would come over to see Bands in the Buffalo bars (McVans) and the brawls would start!:nod: There was also a bar called Korab's (not sure if Jerry owned it though)

The last time the Sabres retained salary was Taylor Hall four years ago.
Correct, so they are willing to do so. That was a decent chunk of change and also during the cost cutting time. They were never going to do it on Eichel and I can't think of any other sought after players where we would have needed to retain to get top value from a contender.

Well we’ve been right up against the cap, right? No room to save slightly less cash when you are trading away players and saving money anyway. Why bother raising the return or allowing more teams to be involved in discussions when you can save Terry a few more dollars?

This has to be a gimmick at this point.

The Sabres probably only retained on Hall because Hall leveraged his No Trade Clause to force a move to Boston. The only way to get that trade done with any sort of decent return WAS to retain.

Sabres were essentially forced into it. They didn't do it by choice. (And keeping Hall was not a viable choice at that point).

The last time I recall the Sabres doing something that amounted to salary retention before Hall was Botterill's silliness about acquiring Hunwick (a Pens cap dump) with Sheary but insisting on keeping him up because his ever-present trade conditions stipulated a single round improvement in the pick sent to the Pens in the deal if they moved Hunwick for any reason. *Hunwick did play 2 games in Rochester as purely an injury rehab assignment and then played out the string in Buffalo*

Also interesting that the pick turned out to be Portillo for Buffalo while Pittsburgh moved the 4th in a picks deal on draft day and it was used to select Mattias Maccelli.
