Anyone with half a brain knew that Ruff was the wrong hire. Why would they even bring him back?
1-he was cheap, still getting paid by the devils
2-he accepted all the leftover assistant coaches instead of picking his own
3-the gm was his assistant coach when ruff was fired 14 years ago, gm fixed an injustice or something
4-feel good hire like lafontaine, housley & nolan
5-sabres have not made the playoffs since ruff was fired, his successors got progressively worse
not arguing he was the right hire at all, just (possible) reasons he was brought back

If they hire him I am done as a fan. Last thing I need is for my team to suck perpetually and also employ scumbags.
pegula gave millions to penn state the week sandusky made national news, 14 years too late to worry about supporting scumbags

It seems not possible for a franchise that had an 18-game winless streak in 2020-21, and then fired the coach and GM and replaced all of the players, and then fired the next coach, too, to now be in the midst of a 12-game winless streak four years later.

And they had an 8-game losing streak 2 years ago.

How.
They did not fire the GM for the 18 game winless streak. Kevyn Adams is still GM. And he’s not getting fired this streak either. Because he does exactly what Pegula wants him to do.

edit: Which is to keep costs down and deflect blame from ownership.

The thing about streaks like this is that teams aren’t going to look past them now. They don’t want the indignity of breaking the string.

Buffalo should be careful here. The Sabres just aren't as poor as this steak would suggest.

Fire the coach, GM? Sure. But all this talk about trading Cozens, Byram, Power. That's where you can get into trouble.

They've got their 1st this year. Hagens, Misa, Frondell, McQueen, Desnoyers. They can grab an impactful center at the draft. They've got a lot of trade capital. Maybe it's time to target a good, responsible veteran to settle that room.

I thought a team with Dahlin, Power and Byram on D would be set. Apparently not

Problem is they are all offensively oriented and two of the three of them (Power, Byram) are extremely poor defensively. Good offensively, but when your forwards can't play defense and your defenders can't play defense you are in trouble

Or embarrass him so much that he wants to hire a hockey guy to handle everything so he can stay far away from it. Either works for me.
