GDT: Buffalo Sabres at Ottawa Senators - 7PM - TSN5 / RDS2 - 4th and Final Sabre Rattling Rigmarole with the JBD Juggernauts (no Brady)

With Ullmark playing good and us playig pre 4 nations we can compete with anyone in the east.

I truly believe this. When these guys commit to defence they are extremely hard to beat.

When they start believing they’re high skilled high octane players is when they start to f*** up.
You could be right.

I am heavily influenced by the fact that almost every game I've watched in the last three weeks they have been very mediocre or bad. I have been unlucky.

No we have truly been bad the last few weeks. Your assessment is right.

Which is what is frustrating. We looked different. Now people can said better or worse but we looked different pre 4 nations.

Even against Florida where we lost without pinto and Norris we just looked more disciplined.

IDK, but this was yet another game against the Sabres where the end result seemed like it was predictable. Buffalo has our number. It doesn’t seem to matter much who we have in net or what players are in or out of the lineup. The (negative) results are consistent for whatever reasons.

I don’t think the Sens take them seriously. Ottawa is looking ahead to the Florida teams and Montreal.

Also, Ottawa is lost without Brady. It’s just not the same. It’s like a vacation without Dad, just not the same

Maybe some of things you said have some validity, but I think they are mostly just excuses. Your explanation doesn’t hold any water for the games earlier in the season. We didn’t know that we’d be in the playoffs when those early season games occurred.

And, in addition, given our current circumstances, the motivation to win and secure a playoff seed should be paramount. And this needs to be the case, no matter who is in or out of the lineup.

It's about the general level of intensity and compete which just isn't there right now.

When the team was winning hockey games, they were relentless in the offensive zone, turnovers, hits, cycling.

Now we're relying on a PP that doesn't work.

I don't remember the last game where we clearly outchanced the other team and also clearly outscored the other team.

Does anyone know the last game? Like win by +3 and outshoot the other team by atleast 10-15 shots?

Usually playoff teams will have those great games every once in a while but it seems like ages.

Looked it up... February 3rd was the last time we won by 3+ while outshooting by atleast 10.

We won 5-2 against Nashville and outshot then 38-27.

Since then, it's happened to us 3 times.

Feb 8th, lost 5-1 to FLA and outshot 47-27(wow)
Feb 26th, lost 4-1 to WIN and outshot 38-24(wow again)
Mar 20th, lost 5-1 to COL and outshot 33-16 (triple wow)

Not counting shots...we also lost these big games in that timeslot:

5-1 loss to Tampa
5-2 loss to Montreal
6-3 loss to Montreal
5-2 loss to sabres

We're bleeding a lot of goals here and there.

Jekyll and Hyde of defensive/goaltending abilities.

For people saying stu is a great playmaker. Or that chemistry can get so good with him that there would be tap ins for his linemates.

He should have shot this. But batherson is wide open lol. And stutzle puts it in his skates.

There was a 3 on 1 where instead of shooting from the wing he threw it back into the middle of the ice where it was intercepted.

Didn’t we win by 3 against Boston?

Actually out scoring opposing teams by a lot is of no concern to me because I don’t think it’s within our abilities to do consistently. I can’t get mad at the team not doing something that I don’t actually think they can do.

And it’s simply
Not the vision that our GM and scouts had for this squad anyway. They didn’t build a team to play fast paced puck possession hockey. And that’s “fine”.

Giroux is on his last legs, unfortunately.
Zetterlund, although snakebitten, has looked effective on the forecheck and backcheck.
I would sit Giroux and have him be ready for Playoffs. I suspect he wont be back next season or if he does it will be at a fraction on his current deal.
Giroux has 47 pts & is 5th in scoring on this team, it's his linemate right now who can't seem to even get another assist. They need Tkachuk back on that line & I don't know what they should do with Zetterlund, at the moment he doesn't fit anywhere.

Ullmark was leaky too. I know we aren’t supposed to say that about Ullmark, but he lets in some softies

Ya, I don’t have the numbers in front of me, but the team hasn’t been playing that well consistently for several games lately. I heard the numbers in a recent broadcast, but don’t remember them. They weren’t impressive.

Shots were 31-25, so it doesn't meat the criteria.

If we can't do it constantly enough, then I'm not sure we're a good enough team to compete. If I look at contenders, they don't got multiple months without winning by 3 and outshooting by 10. It happens here and there throughout the season for them.

They didn't built them to be a contender...well, ok. Maybe we can get someone who can???

The Sens dominated in chances, hits and faceoffs. The PP let us down and Ullmark let us down.

They are playing with fire losing to bottom teams like Pittsburgh and Buffalo. Now we have Tampa and Florida, good lord, if we lose both of those and the Habs win both of their games, our lead is gone.

Ullmark usually (I stress usually) bounces back after a shitty performance like this. He's a proud guy and will probably have his A game on Thursday (assuming he gets the start).

It's never easy with the Sens.

I’m not saying we played well against Boston I actually think we were quite bad against Boston. Thank goodness for swayman

Right we’re not contenders. Every contender in the league has at least 2 players better offensively than our best offensive player.

It’s not that they didn’t built them to not be a contender. They built them for grinding hockey. Forechecking and working along the boards and d men that can absorb a bunch of pressure and be physical.

They didn’t draft Boucher Greig kleven Roger Ostapchuk nordberg and Eliasson to ping around the puck and skate around opposing players.

It was atrocious drafting. And we are where we are.

5v5
CF Sens 72 Sabres 31
HDCF Sens 12 Sabres 6

If you didn't look at the score the Sens dominated statistically start to finish
The edge in play was there even with what I would call sub par battle.
The Cozens line looking forward to the Masters tonight vying for the green jacket

The two weak goals in the 1st on 5 shots cost them.
