Rumor: Buffalo & NYR having conversations about Trocheck today

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
Maybe there's some other smaller parts moving to balance things out. But of the younger forwards I think it's Helenius->Ostlund->Kulich.

Helenius for Trocheck would be awful and unwind Jarmo's goodwill from yesterday.
Ostlund would need to have NYR throw in something decent.
Kulich; eh I dunno.

All three of these players will be fortunate to have the career Trocheck has and continues to enjoy. Doubly so if they are competing with each until age 24 for ice time in Buffalo due to all the youth there.

Probably better you keep Trochek than, why trade him for career 4 point and 24 point players.
again, this isn't rangers fans wanting to trade him. the sabres reportedly have interest. begone with this pointless sass.
So you're saying trading tro would be addition by subtraction?
no im saying 50 points for nyr is 58 somewhere else.

Idk if anyone else has said this but was thinking just now that a dallas/detroit/buffalo 3way that put larkin in dallas, robertson in buffalo, and who knows what out of a ton of options in buffalo to detroit.

This trocheck thing would be on the back end of that trade for buffalo to patch what they traded out.

Dallas must be under the gun to get robertson out the door somewhere before july 1st now and youd think robo would be ok extending in buffalo.

They view Kulich as a first liner. Rangers would be the ones adding in such a deal, not Buffalo. Trocheck is insurance for Kulich.

Could see something like 20th overall, Krebs, Wahlberg
Or the 20th, 2nd round pick + Levi as Quick is no longer their backup. I'd be surprised if they trade Krebs, coach's pet.

I would think they would be bidding against whatever the Wild might be thought to offer if the Wild are not pushing in enough to pry Larkin from Yzerman's grip. If that's someone like Yurov, then it's going to have to be someone like Ostlund IMO even if it sucks. It certainly would make me uncomfortable.

I'd put him behind every center not named Krebs and equal to McLeod. The only thing he excels at that the other guys don't is faceoffs. If that's your measuring stick, then sure.
Actually McLeod and Norris are both around 50%. It's Tage and Ostlund who drag the team average down by a lot. Carrick should be healthy again by the time the season starts, he's around 55% so it isn't as dismal if Tage is put on the wing.

This all day.

Look, if the Sabres are trading for Trochek....I think it's fait accompli that 20 OA WILL be part of the return. The debate is "How much is Buffalo adding to it?"

Personally, I wouldn't add much more than 20 OA. Certainly nothing ofThrany significance. Want Krebs? Sure. Want a guy like Gavin McCarthy? Fine. But nothing of significance.

But that's me.
Throw in Levi to replace Quick.

I feel like Ostlund(as much as I love his game) makes the most sense here. Assuming NYR wants a high end NHL ready Center, or maybe Jiri Kulich? Idk what else they'd add, they have more than enough cap to retain Norris as well tho i wouldn't be shocked if he was added in due to the durability concerns and NYR might want a guy like that to replace vinny and we know norris is a good player when actually playing lol.

I don't see a world where buffalo moves helenius in a trochek deal or 4th overall for that matter...... tho.....with how this week has gone, who knows lol.

Or maybe something with 20th overall and some B level prospects like Anton wahlberg? idk, i'm probably way off with this one haha
Jarmo may have his warts but losing trades hasn't been one of them.

I could see 20th, McLeod and a prospect, possibly Levi to replace Quick. Not familiar with NYR goalie depth.
Garand played down the stretch (just resigned 2 year deal. His job to lose as of now Levi has to go through waivers? McLeod would replace Carrick. Is McLeod a good skater? Rangers need to upgrade skating and speed on the roster as well as an organization need. Trocheck is worth more than 20th in this market with the lack of centers. Def worth a top 10 pick.

As a Sabres fan It’s not the ask I mind, actually, I’m indifferent to what the Rangers want in return. My only concern is what Jarmo is willing to give, and judging by the lack of announced trade, I’d say he’s not willing to give the ask. Which makes me relieved.
I'm hanging my hat on how well he's done so far this off-season and thinking it's not going to go off the rails now.

McLeod is a great skater and excellent on the PK.

Edit: McLeod is also a center and younger so that would diminish the value would it not?

Edit #2: He's also good on offensive zone entries.

Admittedly I don’t watch much of Trocheck, but I don’t see what people are talking about saying he’s started his decline or that he’s a 3C. His 82 game pace was in the 20G-45A range last season. Those are great 2C numbers and passable as a 1C. With the way contracts are going, I feel like he’s as safe as an acquisition you can make. Even if his offense falls off, he’s still a defensively responsible center that’s great on the dot. At his cap hit, he’s unlikely to ever be a bad contract. It’s why I’d rather the Wild target him over Larkin.
A number of Buffalo fans still have emotional bruises from proposals deranged strangers made on the internet many years ago (and one mouth breathing podcaster even bought a billboard)
