Seravalli: Buffalo may not have a choice but to trade Peterka

34 in 65 is a 42 point pace, he had an uptick in 22/23 to 45 points in 77 games, and then went back to 42 points in 23/24. This year that number completely fell off a cliff to 18 in 81. That's not a trend, that's an anomaly.
You can frame it however you want but 3 years in a row its trended down. What don't you understand about that?

2023 Pts 45 Av/PPG .58
2024 Pts 42 Av/PPG .51
2025 Pts 18 Av/PPG .22

Thats called trending down.

Only 2 of 8 seasons he scored of 40+ points.

One could say those are outliers since the majority of his seasons are under 40 points.

Im not even a fan of either team. I totally get if Buffalo doesn't view him as a player they would target. That's totally fine. I took issue with calling him a cap dump, which he's not. Lots of teams would love to add a player like him if made available. He's like Will Cuylle
He is like will cuylle in the way that Peterka is like Kaprizov - he is a tier below Cuylle

At 23, Cuylle put up a season that matched Crouses best offensive output, with 2 minutes less a game, shot a more sustainable shooting %, and scored almost entirely at ES

Cuylle is a young PWF with 60 point potential. Crouse is a vet who just had his worst year as a pro.

They aren’t much alike at all

Yikes. Crouse is only 27 too. I wonder if playing his heavy style has caused injuries that really took a toll on him? That’s a sharp decline for a guy who should be in his prime.,

He was discussing this with Craig and Andrew on After the Whistle (formerly The Instigators) the other day.

Came across more as spitballing than sound, solid information.
This narrative has come from Peterka's agent Allan Walsh through Seravalli.

I would move the franchise to Atlanta or Kansas City secretly and hope Peterka doesn’t notice and signs
Is that based on the great successes of the Flames, Thrashers, and Scouts ?

More likely Texas gets nhl hockey next. The NHL is not likely to F over a very good hockey market despite the dumpster fire of 14 years. At least thats the narrative.

True. But that club plays very loose. Their D especially. Peterka for an experienced right shot D would help.

Anything under 900 save% to me is a goalie issue and this guy has an under 900 for his career.

He's simply not the caliber

it was always 920,that's the vezina barrier to me.

There is a BIG difference between 887 and 920.

887 is borderline unusable
It is a widely accepted trend that save % is down. I can't find a single recorded year the highest save % was below .930 until the last two seasons. there are FOUR goalies over .920 this year total, and highest is .926

I mean imo, 920 to say 900 could mean the difference between a playoff team and a non playoff team, using my nucks as an example. It's the reason I hope we don't trade Demko for a forward.

We missed out by 5 points? and had very near the top of lost games by 1 goal with OT being the backbreaker.

Unless you have a McDrai combo and even then for me goaltending is the most important and under appreciated position in hockey.

If the sabres had elite goaltending, even with the leaky D, I bet they would have challenged for a playoff spot at least.
Especially when you have such a young team goaltending can cover up so many mistakes, youth often make.

Agreed I've always said goaltending is the most important position in the sport.

Just look at what happened the second Stolarz went down, that injury cost them the series.

I fully believe they are in the finals right now if he doesn't get a concussion.

Stolarz doesn't single handily lose game 3 like Woll did.
