Confirmed Trade: [BUF/EDM] Ryan McLeod and Tyler Tullio for Matt Savoie

If Ryan McLeod is getting 50 points on your team your team sucks
Meh. He's a good middle-6 C with potential to be a solid top-6C. Nothing more, nothing less. He'll hopefully be a 40+ point guy here who brings good defensive play + great transitional play. That's a solid player to have.

Hopefully, Savoie works out well for your squad. Buffalo doesn't need another young player still learning the ropes. Kulich and Benson have proven to be ahead of him, and then there's Ostlund and Helenius who are right there with him.

A rare trade where both teams should be happy with what they got.

He has some surprising skill to his game. that assist last night was slick. He really is someone the Sabres would clone if they could.

Matt Savoie will likely end up a career AHLer. Sabres won this trade. Initially i thought the Oilers fleeced the Sabres but after watching Savoie play, i was wrong. He is a Nick Robertson type player.
Imo Nick Robertson is a proven nhler. Savioe isn’t at that level.

Nick Robertson is a dime a dozen player. Not proven. Just a cheap contract. A filler.
Nick Robertson is playing in the nhl. He’s a proven middle six winger because he can be both skilled and feisty. Savoi is either a top six NHLer or he’s in the AHL. IMO he’s an ahler.
McLeod is clearly better than both of these other two.

Robertson has played over 150 games Lavoie not so much
Uh yeah cuz he’s three years older, not waiver exempt. Pretty simple. Savoie will get his chances when his circumstances are alike but similar to N. Robertson will largely be a nothing notable nhl player.

It means you have the actual talent and depth to compete in this league.
You mean depth and talent like our power play merchant RNH, some of the worst dollar for dollar forwards in the entire league like Arvidsson/Henrique/Skinner, and a bunch of do nothing replacement level players like Janmark/Ryan?

Ryan McLeod WAS the depth and talent. Best penalty killer and defensive forward on the team and the guy in the bottom 6 most responsible for carrying the puck and drove the transition game. The McLeod trade was the only acceptable move among the players we lost this offseason because we got a high upside, cheaper and younger prospect in Savoie. But let's not pretend that the Oilers aren't significantly worse in the depth player department from losing McLeod, Holloway, Broberg, and Foegele, and replacing them with a bunch of overpaid, overrated, declining paycheck thief veterans like Arvidsson/Henrique who would help the Oilers much more in a Calgary Flames jersey.

This was Savoie's first true pro season and he did a pretty good job in the AHL. To claim this is his ceiling is premature.
The main add for Oilers in this trade wasn't Savoie but was the cap space. Oilers fans would've been fine had we traded McLeod for a late 3rd rd pick.
Savoie would be a potential cheap replacement for J.Skinner next year or Arvidsson the following. He doesn't need to be doing much more than that on a team that has its core established already. (assuming McDavid extends).
We would have a lot bigger problems than Savoie if McDavid doesn't extend

I was fine with trading McLeod but highly disagree with this. I think most would've figured his value at a 2nd round pick +, but value-wise they did better than expected.

Good for McLeod and the Sabres, he's a good add for most teams and the Oilers need as much young help as they can get, so hopefully it's a win-win.
