Dahlin is an absolute stud and one of the best defencemen in the NHL. He deserves every penny of this deal.
I promise you a relatively unproven defensemen getting 8 x $8M pushes up the market for proven #1D.
Buffalo's cap structure is absurd. Only $25M for Dahlin/Thompson/Cozens for the next 7-8 years is drool-worthy.
But Skinner...
The cap is about the entire roster.
The cap is going up. The days of guys like Makar/Tkachuk signing for 9.5 are over.
Skinner was a PPG player last year. The contract is still not good, but it's much better than it was the first three years.
It's also not all that painful of a buyout, to be honest. There's only one year that it does any real damage.
Congrats Sabres fans. It’s a huge deal and yet it’s still gonna look fantastic going forward. Getting him for all 8 years was the important part. Mission accomplished.
Hard to not see the Sabres becoming a power. All the core guys are basically locked up (aside from Power who will get his money) and the system is loaded. I think with this signing they are clearly up there as “team that hasn’t done anything yet but I’d most want have as my franchise”.

Not worth 11M yet but since its full 8 year term the cap will grow, and his play should be top 3 to 5D yearly so cap% wise won't be that bad as he looks to lead the sabres to contention
Thompson and Cozens on great underpays, so a bit of an overpay for Dahlin is fine.

Skinner is overpaid by what? Like $1-1.5m? If his contract is the worst one we have, I think we're in great shape.

Non top 5D in the league should not be making 11M
Makar, Fox, McAvoy, all are a lot under 11M and are better then him, but they signed under lower cap.
Dahlin ceiling is lower than Malar and Fox but probably better than McAvoy
He still needs to improve to be worth 11M

Considering BUF is good and only getting better? Probably a pretty good chance he can continue it for the next year or two.
This is all related to the cap. He's worth it. It's absurd Mcdavid only gets 12.5
