Mayfield may be more accurate, but no team is winning a super bowl when.your QB leads the league in turnovers. Nothing kills your chances in big games.more, and whether it was this game or a future.one, Mayfield's inability to not play clean football was always going to cost the team.

Brett Favre?

I think you're being unfair to him. We didn't have a decent running back emerge until the second half of the year, and with our defense we were asking him to force things and score 30+ every game.

I mean tonight he did exactly what you wanted. 15/18 passing, all three incompletes were deep balls on the sideline, 2 TD's and 0 INT's.

Bowles is an incredibly mediocre HC, his defensive scheme gets shredded time and time again, and I have no confidence whatsoever that we'll get a stop when we need one. It's clearly time for him to go but I have no confidence in the Glazers to make the right decision.

The defense allowed 22.5 a game this year. Not great, and worse than last year, true. They weren't great tonight either, but came up with a couple of big stops on 4th down. Mayfield, like he did in a few other games this year, failed to capitalize and also turned it over. He will never be close to Brett Favre, and if Favre did happen to lead the league in turnovers in '96-'97 (he didn't, 39 TDs vs 13 picks), it would be the exception, not the rule. The Bucs offense, against a mediocre Commanders defense, scored 10 less than their average and failed on at least 3 key drives. There's plenty of blame for the defense, but Mayfield didn't get it done when it mattered, just like always at the NFL level.

The defense couldn't get off the field. Washington had 35:24 TOP. We didn't get them into a 4th down on their side of the field all night. Obviously the fumble and the later botched snap ended up being the two swing plays of the game, but other than the goal line stand the defense has almost nothing to hang their hats on. Washington had a drive start on their 8 yard line and they took it all the way down the field and took 9 minutes off the clock in doing so. That's entirely on the defense.

I have no clue how Baker is the one you're singling out as last night's biggest flop. Quite frankly, that's crazy talk to me.

The defense made two key stops on 4th down that prevented points. Yes, they couldn't get them off the field a few times and lost the TOP battle, but they played well enough overall and gave up basically their average. Mayfield and the offense settled for 3 twice and handed them a TD. They averaged nearly 30 ppg this year and could only muster 20 against an at best, average defense. Mayfield and the offense get plenty of blame for this.

Bowles settled for 3 twice, huge point of clarification. Quinn went on 4th and shorts, Todd didn't. That's squarely on Todd.

Sure, and if Mayfield and the Bucs offense had converted a few more 3rd downs maybe those decisions don't have to be made. They had a chance up 4 in the 4th qtr to give the defense.some time after the 4th down stop and go up 7 or 11, Mayfield and the offense failed about as badly as possible. They still had a chance to go up 4 with less than 4 minutes left, and both the playcalling and offensive execution failed. When it mattered the most, the 33 million dollar QB failed, as did the coaching staff.

Yeah, you can blame players for not executing a game plan, but play calling and risk appetite is entirely on Bowles and Coen.

Going for it on 4th down vs not, I don't care except for one moment in the game. We have one of the most potent offenses in the league and you don't put the season in the hands of what got you there. Disappointing

The win was there for the taking on their final drive and Irving blew it by letting up inexcusably, that needs to be a first down 10/10 times. Then the bad snap and that's a wrap. Granted I'm not a die hard football guy but you knew it was going to be a coin flip of a game, I thought those plays were much more costly than the fumble or blaming Mayfield in a general sense. Team achieved pretty much on par with how they stack up to the rest of the league, did they not?

Yeah, and that's the problem. When they were 4-6, I talked with several ppl that thought they still had a chance to make noise, and I said it's just going to be last year all over. They'll win a bunch against the absolute dregs of the league.and might get in if Atl implodes against a tougher schedule at the end (which they did), but ultimately, they'll fail against competent teams. The defense was never going to win them anything in the playoffs, yet they at least held a good offense to what the defense averaged this season in 23 points. The team was only going as far as the offense took them these playoffs, and in that they failed badly, scoring 10 less than average. It's just going to be a rinse and repeat next year as well with Bowles as head coach, so they ate no longer worth paying money or wasting time to watch imo. They win a putrid NFC South and 9 or 10 games a year, and most act like it's a good season. When you have a top 5 offense and a HC that's supposed to be a great defensive guy, losing in the first round is a failed season.

It is what it is. Coen seems to be a coach who doesn't stay in one place for long. While he should've responded to the Bucs during that day and a half where he just ghosted them, he never signed a contract with Tampa. Verbal agreements aren't binding, and it's clear the Jax GM was the hold up. He wanted to be a head coach, and there was a team that was interested in him. He likely wasn't going to get that chance in Tampa since the Bucs won't move on from the terrible Bowles, so he took it after they fired Baalke. Hope the Bucs can find someone decent to run the offense, because with the defense being a pile, that's their only chance for any real success.

There are also apparently unconfirmed reports that while he was in Jacksonville working on his deal he said he was home with his sick son. Just a lot of sketchy going on, not our concern anymore.

The secrecy over the visit did serve two theoretical purposes. One, obviously, it would preserve the Tampa offer for Coen, which, again, was contingent on the OC not visiting Jacksonville. Two, it allowed the Jaguars to satisfy the Rooney Rule. Going into Thursday, the Jags only had one minority candidate in for an in-person interview—Saleh’s first was in-person. They needed two to comply, so Graham was slated to come Thursday for the other. But the Jags didn’t want word of their plans getting out, which could cause Graham to cancel. On Thursday morning, with Graham in, the Jaguars called Saleh to cancel his scheduled second interview on Friday morning.

So they also cheated the Rooney Rule. Real nice.

Inshallah

Stu I cannot thank you enough for pulling the Rays out from being the laughing stock of baseball. You're not a BAD owner. By any means. You're just on a budget that has not allowed us to sustain anything but "well above average" success. Success nevertheless. But anyone with serious World Series aspirations is always going to go home disappointed. I hope the sale goes through

But I'll buy you a drink if I see you
