Bryan Marchment passes away

People just have to rush to speculate; don't know why.

RIP Bryan Marchment and condolences to the family.
People like to presume, because they want to feel safe knowing why it couldn't possibly happen to them. It's kinda just human nature.

On ice stuff is exactly that, it does not matter.

Marchment routinely crossed the line with actions that had off-ice consequences. Some of the comments in this thread are overly ghoulish, but when a man makes a living by injuring people on purpose, this is what his legacy looks like.

He didn't deserve to die young and it's awful to think about what his family is going through.

Wait... He presumably got to Montreal for the draft (unless he had any other reason to go there, which would quite a coincidence), meaning he was probably healthy a few days ago if not yesterday (or was otherwise some medical care in Montreal, despite, I assume again, not residing there, which would be... strange).

Did something happen in Montreal?
He was there for the draft along with most scouts.

Before we start with speculating about CTE due to fighting, Marchment took one of the worst hockey head injuries I've ever seen by falling in to an open penalty box door.

You really had to be a bad dude to be hated as much as he was in the late 90's/early 00's. That said, he was a warrior and made things exciting. Real shitty news and rough for his family right when his son is going to get a nice pay day.

I remember that clear as day. He was wearing a Gretzky-style basically useless JOFA helmet and I thought he was dead when he went into seizures on the ice.

That said, the CTE speculation is weird. CTE causes lots of long-term problems, but it doesn’t cause employed 50 y/o scouts seemingly in full possession of their faculties to just drop dead.

While it’s very sad to see anyone suddenly pass away and my heart hurts for his family.

Let’s be honest here…

His on ice legacy will always be that of a complete and utter asshole and a VERY dirty player who made a career of taking out players knees sometimes out of the game permanently.

The only thing CTE that would make an untimely death more likely is it leads to serious depression or drug addiction. Hopefully, these aren't the case here.

Hate hearing that someone’s life was cut short. He may have been a dick of a player, but he wasn’t a bad dude per se. Sad for his family and loved ones.

Off topic but that's kinda what happened to Steve Montadour who was much younger at 35. Seems like the direct CoD was never revealed but it's blamed heavily on his advanced CTE.

according to the interwebs, you're at a greater risk for respiratory and cardiac issues as well.

Not knowing the guy or his past medical history i'm 90% that it was either a brain embolism or a heart attack.

This is rough.

When I first started scouting and was really sheepish about chatting with other guys, especially around pro scouts, he was the easiest guy in the world to talk to.

Never talked down to me, always listened to what I had to say, and gave me tips and things to look for. First guy to ever make me feel like an equal, when even OHL and junior guys at the minor midget level would look down their noses.

Super sad day, and way too soon. Sincerest condolences to his friends and family.

Rest In Power, Mush.
