I have no doubt Hamilton will rebound and play a much better game tonight. I feel like he may be banged up a bit.

Hamilton's play is a non issue. Definitely just rust. He's not backing down from anybody either. Good to see the kid mix it up a bit.

Before the game (on the bench) Looch was using something that looked like a pair of pliers with a thick spring to exercise his hand / wrist. I assume this means he is not yet 100% and is working on getting more strength .

I really hope he stays away from dropping the gloves . I would rather he stay on the ice.

Fraser has a great shot. He's big. I think he would fit in nicely with the cycle game Lucic+Krejci like to play and would benefit from great feeds by Krejci.

Is he slower than Iginla?

Possibly? It may just be me, but I want dynamic players on my first line and Fraser doesn't strike me as that kind of player. He has a great shot, is an average skater at best, is big (but not nearly as physical as Iginla), and goes to the net. It seems to me that he is a "nice" player, and reminds me of a guy like Ryder, who I also would not want on the first line.

I was OK with dealing Boychuk, but I was really hoping that the B's could bring back a player better than Fraser (or the other options like Gagne) as part of the JB deal or in a separate one (which still could be coming). I really like the 2nd and 3rd line combos and hate to break them up, but at this point, I think that Smith's skillset is a better "fit" for 17 and 46 then any other candidate. We could also still see Loui in that role (once both 17 and 46 are 100%). If that happened, I would out Spooner on Carl's left and Kelly on his right. The easiest solution would be if one of the internal candidates like Pastrnak stepped up and filled the spot, but I'm not sure he's physically ready for that role?

Although I predicted a 4-2 B`s win, the game was as expected with a many new(and mostly young) faces, a top line centerman out, and 3 or 4 guys coming off seasons where they barely played due to injury and Looch with essentially one wrist, sloppy

2pts in the bank, could care less

Exactly Susan...rough night, but Claude just switched up the D system. I expect growing pains but a much stronger, active D by December.

BlaBla. Reality: still the best in the East!

:shakehead

I'm not as down on the JB trade as most, but how is this bla-bla? The B's just traded a Top 4 guy that had been here for years and you don't think idea of growing pains is valid or relevant? Take your head out of the sand.

When you remove a player like that from a rotation (any player, not just JB), the others must get acclimated to their new roles and responsibilities, and I think it's going to be an ongoing process until the B's find the right "mix". TBH, I don't think those roles have even been defined yet. I expect to see Bart in there as well, and for the first few weeks I think we will see a number of combinations until the B's are satisfied.

Having 7 "NHL Caliber" d-men and having three effective pairs are two different things. The problem I have with Bart not in the mix is the same one I had before Boychuk was traded and was playing with 44. I think the B's need a "puck mover" on every pair to avoid getting hemmed in by an aggressive forecheck. That's why I wanted to see a Bart-Sides pairing to start. It allows Dougie to play with Z and Krug to play with McQ. I just don't see McQuaid as a Top 4 with Sides as his partner. I think it's going to come down to one of Bart or Miller stepping into that 2nd pair spot. Miller is not the skater Bart is, but I think he's a better skater than 54 and has a better first pass as well.

I think all of this is what Chia and Co are evaluating and either someone steps up, or I would hope that the B's would move assets to get a guy that does fit, a RH/LH puck mover that is sound on D that you can pair with Sides and makes less money than 55 was going to in the future. That will not be easy and its why I'm hoping Bart or Miller can elevate their game to the level that makes an outside addition unnecessary.

Thanks for sharing that. I'm giving him at pass on the first 15-20 games of the year for sure, it's going to take time for him to simultaneously get all his conditioning back, and gel with whatever his line is.

barts a puck mover all right. he moves it blindly up the boards to the opposing team.
he can skate pretty good and thats it. He takes a holding penalty every game, plus his coverage in front is horrid. The guy plays like he's never watched a hockey game in his lfe.

i would def feel better with miller as top 4 than bart

To each his own.

I want to see the 2014-15 Bart (not 13-14) before I pronounce him DOA. I also think that Bart is a convenient whipping boy and gets held to a different standard than others. If Bart played like Sides or Dougie last night, people would be at his door this morning with the torches and pitchforks.

I like Miller, and he's a better skater than many give him credit for, but he has to prove he can make it in the Top 4.

I'm on the Bart bandwagon. Kids got skills with the puck

I am not a Bart fan in what I have seen to this point just a poor hockey IQ.

I must agree with you however, let's see what he brings in 2014-15. This team at present has some holes. In 15 to 20 gmaes the organization will have had the time needed to see who can fill these holes and what need to be filled through a trade .

First of all, the Twitter idiot needs to learn the difference between an escalator collapse and malfunction. A "collapse" would lead one to believe that the whole structure fell to the ground. Also, quoting a single person with the "blood on the walls"...you might want to check your internal BS detector if it didn't go off. Drunks break the escalators there all the time. I'm sure it'll be much better this year when they start selling shots of Ketel One (yeah....riiiiight)

On a more positive note, it was nice to see Chris Kelly bounce back the way he did....and Soderberg was an absolute stud. I don't think Philadelphia is all that good, to be honest.

I thought the boys had tremendous energy and drive, to a man.

I think I'd be okay with Cunningham replacing all of our expensive 4th line center options if his face-off skills prove to be decent. Loved his hustle, speed and hitting game last night.

Bobby Robins will be a cult hero to rival PJ Stock around here.

Soderberg and Eriksson have to stay together. That was the best Loui has looked in a month, and Soderberg is a beast. How is this guy NOT going to be worth $5m as a UFA?

I thought Spooner showed well in his 12 minutes. The effort was there on the defensive side and he got dirty in his own zone a couple times which freed up pucks for the breakout.

On the downside...

I'm worried about this new "system tweak." I didn't like it when I heard about it and last night we saw multiple 2on1's that resulted in a Dman attempting to stand up.
