I don’t think your gut knows what the hell is going on.

Doughty wears the A for the Kings and will likely be their next Captain. Also, he just signed an 8 year, $88m extension with them.

He’s not going to Toronto...unless it’s to visit the HHOF.
Just out of curiosity...what makes you think they would strip Kopitar of the C?

Yes and Marchand had the perfect response to him, during a Bruin Ranger game. "Looks like you choose the wrong team":thumbu:
Haha, that was great. I really don't want a Hayes anywhere near the Bs. Kevin is nothing special and f*** the other brother for collecting his check while giving a crap effort.

So true. Excuses abound for no trades around here to defend the GM.

End of the day we have now had Sweeney for long enough as GM to expect that not much happens via trade to bolster this team. He’s almost certainly going to ride it out, keep bringing up kids who earn the shot and hope the veteran stars carry the load.

In the end the measure of his success will be whether the collective quality of the kids is enough to push them over the top while Bergeron, Rask, Chara, etc. are all effective. Probably a couple years left in that window, at most. Guess we just hope some of the kids take big jumps soon.
Didn’t Sweeney make a big trade at the deadline ?

I will check

I don’t fully understand the narrative that Cam Neely is an impatient guy. Certainly Dom you’d be in a better position to judge, but I don’t see how any events prove this narrative.

Extremely long-term coach (Julien), two GMs, very few meaningful deals aside from a few offseason moves (none earth shattering). Aside from Seguin, I can’t think of a single trade or transaction that seemed rushed or impetuous. Yet I can think of countless times it felt like change would do them good and nothing had happened.

He looks all fired up on TV, but the actions of him or his hires don’t show it at all. Good or bad, I have no idea. Moreover, he says next to nothing in the media to fire up anyone or hold folks accountable. Sinden had comments on a monthly basis. Neely is a veritable ghost.
We saw him last week - approachable and has interesting things to say. Always. Maybe a writer should try asking him some questions

I don’t see why LA would trade the player who’s pretty much the face of their franchise and who they signed to a max deal for a player like William Nylander. Makes no sense for LA long or short term to trade a stud #1 defenseman for what I consider a good (not remotely great) forward that may be a pain in the rear end to deal with for his whole career and likely will want more money than he’s worth

On hockey central the other day doughty came up... basically the comment was about how unhappy he is with the state of the kings.

As we might remember, doughty was open enough to publically talk about his desire to play for his hometeam a couple years ago

Hes not someone that shys away from the limelight

LA needs a massive blood infusion to remake their team... and talk is that its all about getting faster and adding offense

La has severe cap limitations though

If this trade were to go down as i predict... nylander would be part of it for sure... and he brings a speed element

I think jake gardner needs to be involved with some assurance he is signing on long term

But i would also think a couple more assets are involved too

My gut says the LA situation has been going downhill for several years now and that gets tough for guys like doughty. Meanwhile when a team finally ends denial and accepts rebuild... getting 3-4 young assets for 1 older one is always something that gets considered.

Toronto is 1 doughty type dman away from becoming a huge favorite for the cup

And LA is looking at a rebuild that might take years if they attempt to do it in small tinkering moves

If there any semblance of this trade to take place at all, there better be a guy who wears #34 in blue going west

IMO our (Boston) hockey writers ask the lamest meatball questions I've ever heard. KPD, Fluto and the rest are simply asking the least obtrusive, silliest questions that basically kids ask. "What do you eat before a game?" Who was your favorite player growing up?" Who cares?!?! They're all afraid of offending the front office person and being banned from interviews (not that it is likely).

Oh, I see it happening. They already won't talk to Haggerty much.
If you want a ban as a precedent just look at the White House.

NO politics here please!
I don't see why Haggs would be banned he's pretty much harmless unless Donnie Sweeney has
a cheeseburger buffet set up for the media... THEN, Haggs is ferocious!

He'd be another Cam Neely on a loose puck ferocious.

Yeah I could understand players freezing out Haggs or giving him the minimum. I don’t think he gets much respect from what I’ve seen at training camps I’ve been to

Have you seen the "interview" that he did with Bergeron while he (Haggs) was driving? It was hilarious in that Bergy looked like he was being driven
in a mafia staff car, you know, no handles on the inside to escape!

The problem with this is that the people at Hockey Central (like a lot of Canadian media) are so pro-Leaf it’s f***ing ridiculous.

I wouldn’t be holding my breath on Doughty to TOR. It’s liable to be harmful to your health.

No, but I bet it was uncomfortable for Bergie!
