If Im his agent I tell him get market value...you want to do good...donate it to something worthwhile.....but you sure as hell don't donate it to the league.
Ah I see what you’re getting at.

I’m assuming they would use that money on another player. Or to keep their own players if necessary.

Not hair plugs for Jacobs. Though he would look good with a nice mullet.

the carlo one sorta sticks out to me the most. you think he's getting 4M a year for 2 years? yikes.
i mean, i like how he's played this year and eats those minutes, but he's probably gonna have 12 points
when the season is over. i was thinking more like 2-2.5M. who are the comparables?

I agree, he's harder to project because he's a top4 guy who hasn't produced much offensively yet, but we're seeing signs of offense from him this year. At any rate, I was looking at these guys...

Chychrun $4m
Ceci $4.6
Hanifin $4.9
Pesce $4m
Slavin $5.3

I don't know... The market sets the value. Everybody on that second list was 23 when they signed and Heinen outscored all but one of them. I guess he could fall off the planet this season but he's looked better of late. I'll be surprised if he gets less than $2.5.
That's fair, even though I disagree with it.

I dunno, I could be way off here, but one good (albeit inconsistent) season, and another 20+ games of inconsistent play isn't worth 3+ a year.

I think 2 years/4 million is the sweet spot for both sides. He'd still be RFA afterwards in line to make some money, then hit UFA.

I like Heinen as a player, I think he brings a different game than DeBrusk, Bjork and Donato do/would. But he needs to do more. He's been better as of late, but I need to see it consistently to get off the fence.

i can see pesce and ceci, not the other 3 though. i'd bridge him maybe 5M total over 2 years...or if he's looking for 4M,
you have to get him signed for 6 years.

brandon carlo is very lucky you aren't his agent

there are currently 20 guys who signed 4 million dollar deals at age 23 or younger

brett

Oscar klefbom never had more than 20 points when he signed
Jonas brodin never had more than 20 points in a season when he signed
adam Larson has one season with more than 20 when he signed
damon sverson never has a season with more than 3 goals when he signed
olli matta had 1 season with more than 20 points
brett pesce had no seasons with more than 20 points

my question to you... how many of these guys do you trade carlo 1 for 1?

your 2.5 might be ok on a bridge deal... depending what carlo's camp wants. but the going rate for a good defensive dman that can play 20-22 mins a night for you is 4 mill on a long term deal

actually when you spell it out... you are pretty bang on with your comparables. theres no way hes signing 2.5 long term but comparables at 2.5 on shorter term deals include

darnell nurse at 3.2
Joshua morrisey at 3.15
esa Lindell at 2.5
jake McCabe at 2 mill

2.5 for a short term deal and 4 mill for a long term deal is what the market is for carlo

{I double posted... so I will throw out a trade suggestion

its a bit pricey but it would be worth it imho

we send
david backes {and im suggesting he waves his nmc of course}
danton Heinen {and yes I know hes a favorite of many here}
and we give up a first round pick {either 2019-2020 our choice}

to florida

for nick bujugstad {he is a 6'6 220 pounder right shot center/winger}
Bjugstad is 26 now which is an age that big power forwards often get better
he has already been a 20 goal scorer and a 45 point guy

Also, huge no to Lucic.

I get the Backes deal sucks for what he's giving them right now, but it's an extremely moveable deal after this season to a cap floor team (assuming he waives).

Even if they are stuck with him until the end of the deal, it ends in the 20-21 season, unlike Lucic who still has another two seasons after that.

People can get on Backes play all they want, and given his age, it's not going to improve. It's also a preview of what's to come for Lucic, who is well on his way there already.

I'm all set having a 6 million cap hit tied up until 22-23 in a player who can barely keep up with the pace of play right now.
Could not have said it better myself, Lucic is not the guy you trade for right now, even it means getting rid of Backes.

We know he's solid. He already plays top 4 minutes. He's in the plan. Sign him 4.25 x 6 and call it a day.

Also even though I love Lucic his contract is exponentially worse than Backes'. So unless their retaining (which they won't) or give us something else (which they won't) not even close to being on board with that.

I would love this trade, no way Florida does this.
It would cost more than DH and a first rounder, Backes is a salary dump in this deal that they may not want. I think we have to add another piece, one of our dee in the AHL, JZ or CC?

Fantasy trade here, what would be the chances of getting Barkov from the Panthers? Would you deal McAvoy as part of a deal to acquire him?

The loss of Krug would be impactful on the team both on and off the ice. Mantha's addition would not fill those voids. To me, both teams get what they need, but Boston is a worse team for it.

I don't think the Bruins can make this trade unless they KNOW that Chara is going to be here when they need him. Even then, it's not a deal I would feel that great about for the reasons you mention.

For Mantha, I would prefer to send an array of quality prospects. DET needs help all over the line-up, but they don't have the cap space to fill holes RIGHT NOW. So, for me it would be a combo of a D, C and W prospects for Mantha. Something line Vaakanainen, JFK and Cehlarik. Or Zboril, Studnicka, Cehlarik.

I like all of these prospects, but there really isn't room for everyone to play. I would rather the Bruins keep their 2019 picks and part with kids who can help another team.

Mantha carries a manageable cap hit and plays the kind of game that Horton did.

I really like Barkov, think it would cost us more than McAvoy. Florida would want a center as well add JFK and it might get it done? At 5.9 million a year, Barkov is a steal for the next four years.

Barkov/McAvoy might be very comparable to pronger/shanahan or chelious/Savard

its not a direct comparable but im not sure that trading number 1 dmen for top star forwards has a history of working out well.

I guess if you don't like McAvoy as much as I do... you might not be willing to put him in the same breath as these other guys? I do think Barkov deserves to be compared to these other guys... no doubt hes going to be a top 10 center in this league for years to come imho

Heinen must be very happy you are not his agent... but im sure his real agent will point to the following contracts as comparables

elias Lindholm and alexander Wennberg are the top of the charts...

Lindholm a 23 year old who never had a season with more than 17 goals or 45 points {but was a high draft pick} 4.85 mill on multi year deal

Wennberg was 23 when he signed after a single season with more than 10 goals or more than 40 points. he got 4.9 mill on multi year deal.

if Heinen can get to 40 points this year he will be right in line stats wise to use these 2 as comparables in arbitration hearing

max domi had just 1 single season with more than 10 goals and only 1 season with more than 45 points... he signed a short term deal for 3.1 mill at age 23

andre burakovsky has never had a 40 point season and has a short term deal at 3 mill

heinens agent is definitely going to use these contracts in an arbitration hearing as well

16 goals and 47 points in his only full season is 3 mill per year type production unless the guy is seriously flawed defensively... and no one complains that Heinen sucks defensively

Aren't we kind of getting ahead of ourselves with Heinen? 16 goals last year but only on pace for 8/9 this year....

im pretty sure the list of guys I put as comparables had 1 single season that matched heinens 1 single season... and then struggled the other years like hes struggling this year

trust me if he goes to arbitration... his agent isn't going to have a hard time comparing him to the guys in my list unless he were to get hurt or something. if he ends up with 10 goals-30 points he will be right around 80 points roughly speaking for his 2 years and that's going to earn him right around 3 million in arbitration

I don’t think adding JFK makes a difference in any deal. He hasn’t shown anything.

I think Heinen’s deal (if he’s still here) all depends on how the last 60+ games go. If he starts playing like he did last year through Christmas, he will get Mantha money. If he continues to play strong defensively, but doesn’t contribute much offensively, he will get paid a lot less.

If it’s the former, the B’s will probably look to do a 2 year bridge deal. If it’s the latter, Heinen and his agent will probably want a 1 year deal, so he can try to reestablish himself on the offensive side and go back to arbitration the following offseason with more leverage.

You can never tell, but given Heinen’s personality, he seems to be a team guy that isn’t going to try to break the bank, even if he does turn it on.

If Heinen doesn't improve on his 5 points after 18 games I don't believe anyone is very worried about the cost of his contract.

We did indeed, and Jimmy was coming off a 19 goal 35 point season and was 25, about the age power forwards often get better. Now he's making league minimum and playing in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
