Really think Sacco was in a no-win situation with Marchand. He played so poorly yesterday that I thought he would hurt the team in OT. Maybe Sacco thought the same. Or maybe he was just frustrated with his captain.
But if he plays him, the message is no matter how bad you're playing, you'll play in OT. Much like the message for the first unit on the PP, no matter how bad you are, we'll keep wheel you guys out there, even if its killing this team.

I'm on record as supporting the concept that stars should be benchable. No-one should be exempt if it's warranted. So in principle I have no problem with Marchand or anyone else being benched when earned. But the timing still just seemed wrong to me, for the reasons already stated. I get Marchand may have screwed up in OT, but he also may have won the game for us, and I'd argue the track record speaks in his favor on that front, even in his decline.

It's tough for coaches, for sure. Sometimes it can be no win as you said. And ultimately they need to be in charge. But in the context of the situation and the season, it just felt like the wrong call in this case.

I’m no analyst, but do those numbers suggest perhaps that the Dead Cat Bounce has left the barn?

Actually looks like the 17 games since is pretty much what Monty’s numbers would have been. Assuming he ate said dead cat and got ill.

Yikes
Montgomery had H. Lindholm most of those games. Sacco hasn't had that luxury plus McAvoy last two.

No matter who or what is at fault or not at fault IMHO Brad, Joe Sacco etc etc are all good people. They aren't villains, they're just doing the best that each of them can do. It may not be good enough but it's the end of an era.
I hope that Brad isn't demonized, we don't know what's really happening in the minds and hearts of those involved. Wait and see is all we can do, without hate and harsh criticism. We all want this team to get back to competing and contending and there are probably a few ways of going about that or crashing completely.
It's hard to watch the players and team we love go through this but we (oldies) have seen this come and go before.

And this too shall pass.

What your seeing, is it’s a managerial problem as much as anything

Brad is not leaving Boston unless it's for Nova Scotia in my mind.
What makes you so sure?
Boston would be foolish not to explore what a return would bring and hell maybe Brad might want out.

Just a gut feeling..His buddy Bergie retired playing entire career with Bruins so I am sure he would like that also , Brad already showed how much he cares for Boston taking less on last contract. Its an insult even asking him but hey ,after what they been doing to him you might be right.Just my opinion

I don’t think it’s insulting at all, it’s business and doing what’s best for your team. Keeping Marchand, missing the playoffs and having him sign elsewhere in the offseason are all possibilities and that would be terrible asset management.

The top 6 forward group is greatly lacking talent.

However, the defense is the greater concern.

They were able to lock it down when they first made the coaching change. And now you’re playing without your top 2 defensemen.

The roster just isn’t that good. They’re right where one would expect them to be, somewhere between 7 and 12 in the conference.

Yea well they have been down right wrong treating him the way they have Monty grabbing his shoulder on bench & now this nobody Sacko 🙄 benching him in OT needing a Win .Fire them all they miss playoffs

Well put but Succo, and in particular Kelly and Leach, have brought nothing. Pk is atrocious and Pp is still well below average. Line changes are even more poorly timed than under Monty etc. It is of course a roster problem at its base, but the staff has made no changes for the better.

Yea well ,I am him I tell them straight out eat shit & I will retire first .Sacco really disrespected him.
So he retires, he is not and will not be the first player to retire, and if he thinks he still has enough, why retire, could it be he knows what we all suspect.

No doubt. But I think what @Gordoff is saying is that this sort of thing leads to demonizing someone. Sacco may not be a great coach, and he may not have been right to sit Marchand. BUT there’s no indication that he’s a nasty coach. He’s just trying to get some results and wants to win. Whether he, or the team on the ice, have been in put a position to fail or not is certainly not his fault.

marchand w

marchand was garbage all game long. i dont disagree with sacco
Sacco is not to bright .He just sat one of the best OT players in NHL history needing to win.He will not be rehired watch and see.

I did not mention trading him, but if the opportunity was there and it helped this team, you must pull the trigger.
Better ask him if he will go first
