I was surprised by the Duran call up and I am wondering if the fans who follow Providence more are also surprised. I was under the impression he was having a good but not great year in Providence? Is this just a perception issue with me or did this surprise others too?

I think he is having a good but not great season, but I think you saw why he was called up. the guy played his ass off last night. Good for him, if he's been playing with that effort level consistently then he absolutely earned it.

Not surprised. Duran will never be a point producer. That's not his game.

Thank you both for the answers. Is it safe to say that if he makes the team next year he would most likely play 4th line minutes or do you think he could crack the top 9 on a good team with his skill set and determined play?
 
I still can’t figure out why some people write off getting draft picks in rounds 4–7 the more pics you have the better and you never know who you might end up with. I really believe that Walsh might be a great pic for us in around seven.

How longer after drafting a player before you can project what kind of career they are going to have 5 Years ? I think it is at least 10 before you can get a complete evaluation. My point being evaluating if a draft is a bust a a strong pick takes time .

Yeah sometimes the bust becomes apparent quickly.

Look at the career path of Frederic. He went from hated pick, to maybe ok, to maybe bust, to ok grinder, to maybe he's a legit second line type, to disappointing and dealt. Ultimately he was good value for where he was picked, a good bit better than at least 10 guys drafted in front of him, and probably worse than 5-8 guys drafted after him (although most were not in consideration where he was picked)

I think you can project as soon as you want. Then you can continue to change the projection as you evaluate. You can also make a prediction. Which i dont think you should change. 10 years in you dont need to project anymore. At that stage they likely are what they are

How’s it “silly” to have him on there though. It’s a summary of objective statistics. They are what they are.
