Prospect Info: Bruins Prospects XXIV

Size matters. It’s hard to draft tiny defenders in the first round. Looks like every team missed on him. He is one of the best players in his draft year I’d say.
You cannot hit what you cannot catch in hockey.
His skating ( edge work, first step, etc) is elite.
He was the 18th dee taken in the draft, so yes, everyone missed him.

It was a shame to have left him on the board, and even more of a shame that the hated Habs ended up with him, but after Krug and Grizz, there was no way the Bruins were taking him. Not with the fairly recent obsession with size in the FO. That said, while it's very early days for a lot of that draft class, the Bruins probably got the next best second-rounder.

Does Locmelis turn pro after this season? He is already 21 but may need to do some more physical development. That said he is having the best season of their prospects, and he has thrived at higher levels aready

Hendrickson DNP.

He left Friday's game early in the third after a high hit by Maxim Strbak , which the refs reviewed and decided it was only a minor penalty.

Lysell is having the best season. And maybe Johansson.

Lysell is playing in a harder league and has been putting up points like crazy. If it wasn’t for his slow start we wouldn’t even be having this conversation.

And I’m a huge Locmelis fan boy.

Fair enough, I was thinking of their amateur prospects, wasn't really comparing him to people like Lysell or Poitras

I feel like Poitras has graduated. Fair though. In that case maybe. Hard to compare across all the leagues. I do wonder when Locmelis will go pro. I’m excited to see what he can do at the ahl/nhl level

Wouldn't surprise me if he did but I hope he stays in school 1 more year, be in the mix for the Hobey
Precisely this. His all around game is almost there, he is a great playmaker but if there is one thing lacking it's that he seems to almost refuse to take his shot when it's there. It's gotten better the last few games but I'd like to see it more consistently because he has a good shot.

I think a lot will be decided for the Bruins after the World Championships in May.

They may decide they want him to turn pro.

Freshman on a veteran team. Next year is when he will start to blossom.
Kinda sorta.

There are 3 other freshman forwards on the roster (also 4 Sophs). All 3 of the other freshman have more pts than Letourneau. Now 1 of them has only 2 pts more. Of the other 2... one is a guy who is going to be a top 3 pick in the draft.

The other guy, who has substantially more points and is a freshman is Teddy Stiga, who went in the 2nd round of this draft. The simple truth is that Teddy Stiga was far more ready and developed as a prospect to succeed in the NCAA this season while Letourneau isn't. Stiga is smaller, a better skater, passer, shooter and puck hound. As a hockey player RIGHT NOW he's a much much better player.

Of the Sophs, 2 are studs taken in the 1st rd the year before Letourneau. So no shame being behind them. But the fact that an undrafted 5'8 Sophomore with no NHL future at all (Will Vote) is getting more playing time than Letourneau is slightly concerning. So it's not just "Hey he's a freshman".

But Letourneau was drafted for what he might become 4 or 5 years from now. He's going to play at least 3 years in the NCAA and most likely 4 before we have a real idea of what he can become.

Fair assessment.
I’m of the opinion that a kid that size is almost always a year behind a smaller player. He’s so gangly and still figuring out his size.
