They don't pick high and largely stick with US/CAN players. They have a few swedes, but are mostly late round picks. Letourneau being their latest high pick will probably at best be a camp invite. Maybe in his 20 year old season.
True but there were US and Swedes picked in the 2nd round or later in this draft that made their teams. Stiga, Burnevik and Eriksson off the top of my head. Now just because those guys are further along than Letourneau right now doesn't mean they always will be.

I want both, a team that makes the playoffs and has prospects at the world juniors ( like T bay , Dallas, ). Is that too much to ask?
We are the only team in the league without a player to watch.
both of the teams you mentioned have a whopping 2 players each represented at the WJHC`s, not like they are sending 5/6 like some teams

I think what Canada often does wrong is overload it`s roster with first round picks, feels almost lazy , the attitude too often seems/appears to be that the more 1st rounders you have, the better you`ll be. I think this year they have 11 but could be wrong there.

I think they often forget that the depth guys who may not be first rounders can be equally as valuable

I'm sure they get pressured by the NHL clubs as well. Like I'm sure the Bruins wanted to make sure that if they released Poitras last year, he'd be an important player for them.

I remember the arguments that the BRUINS should have drafted Kreider over JDB. I'm guessing at this point that JDB's value is higher than Kreider's.
Personally, I would’ve drafted Dave Andreychuk over DeBrusk. Our powerplay would be much better with his netfront presence.

I don't imagine NHL teams get involved unless they are actually loaning the player off the NHL roster a la Poitras.

The Prospects are basically guided by whatever league they are playing in. For instance, league's that fall under the IIHF umbrella have to release players for IIHF sanctioned tournaments. CHL teams have to release players to play in the world juniors, but not the WJC-18. Not relevant here, but all Russian players in the KHL have it in their contracts that they must play for Russia at the WC if chosen and even if they sign a contract overseas.

Lot of different rules and to many to remember off the top of one's head.

NHL teams will get involved though when sending a player to junior or NCAA.

Connor was the guy and should have been the guy

I saw Billy Jaffe a Michigan hockey player after the 15 draft and said you like Connor there and he looked at me and before he spoke I knew what was coming out of his mouth and it did

Connor is the killer pick missed in 15. He’s probably going to HOF and with Pastrnak would have been an incredible 1-2 punch

Ironically he was there at 16 and Chiarelli traded the pick along with 33 to take Barzal

Connor went 16
