I was intrigued by Bukac going into this season and since he was injured and we don’t have a ton of eyes on the Whl on this board I monitored a Brandon Wheat Kings forum and they were less than complimentary of his play this season. He was a project so not writing him off but it sounded like he really struggled...sounded like he handled the puck like a grenade and Frustrated the heck out of the forum members
He appeared to have had a pretty good development camp from comments I read from the FO staff. The Ice Dogs had no issues with selecting him and I usually take what fans on forums with a grain of salt, including myself.

"Hockey Canada announced today that Oshawa Generals captain Jack Studnicka has been invited to participate in Hockey Canada’s World Junior Showcase in Kamloops later this summer. The final roster will compete in December at the World Junior Championships held in Vancouver and Victoria, British Columbia."

Lets hope Studnicka impresses and finds himself on the final roster. That would be excellent. Full roster below:

While the story is nice, and he seems like a likable player with some upside, he's not a Boston Bruins prospect, so why would people add him to their prospect lists?
He is a Bruins propsect as he is on your AHL affiliate and is as good as most of your D listed above if not better than some of them I would suggest.

He's not a Bruins prospect until he signs an ELC with Boston. Undrafted, 21 years old coming out of the CHL. I can't place him above any of the D above.

It’ll be interesting to see if we lend our 3rd line center for this tournament or not. :sarcasm:

This is awesome though, Studnicka is a damn good second round pick. He’s making me worry less about not having a prospect with top 6 offensive potential because he does. If he builds on what he did last camp, I think he can make the team this year.

Stop overrating prospects.

Steen's style is built more for the North American rink sizes. His tenacity and motor will fit in better, hope he comes over soon.

Studnicka & Frederic seem so Bruins Blueprint- size 3 zone some good offense

Center is my only concern on this team

If they hit on 2 of 3 of JFK, T-Fred, or J-Stud they are in business

Riley Nash didn't get offered a huge AAV. I would have signed him in a heartbeat for 2.75 after how he played last year. The fact we passed on giving him a reasonable 3 year deal tells me they expect one of these kids to make the big club sooner rather than later AS the 3C not breaking in on the wing. If they were a couple years away you give Nash what Cbus gave him.

Poor Krejci though if one of them emerges this year as a legit NHL center. He could be leading the team in scoring and there would still be posts demanding to trade him every 5 minutes.

Was just driving home and 98.5 was talking hockey.

I heard one caller and he presented his case Marchand and Rask for Karlsson. He appeared serious - didn’t sound like Gerry Long.

What kind of player is studnicka? For some reason I have Ryan Johansen in my head when I think about his game but not sure if that’s not off base or not

We’d only have 9 NHL defensemen if we made that trade though.

His offensive game reminds me of Bergeron's. He does a lot of his damage between the o-zone dots with a quick release. Not sure how he is defensively, but I'm sure someone like @Dom - OHL could give us better insight to the style of player that Studnicka is.

I don't like making player comparisons, but in this case I can say that in some ways he's closer to a David Krejci in style and in other ways closer to Patrice Bergeron. That's not to suggest he will turn out to be one of those to.

I've watched him for four seasons now and a couple of things surprised me early on. 1) How quickly he decided he would put the effort in defensively as he does offensively and 2) how hard he works defensively. If he makes Team Canada for the WJC, that will be the reason.

The kid possesses excellent leadership abilities and character. He's shown a few times that he is willing to be the first player to come to a teammates defence. He's also a quality person off the ice and is involved in all sorts of charity work.

He's a playmaker first and foremost, and a very good and slick one at that. Of his 50 assists last season, 37 of them were primary assists. And he does it usually against the oppositions top players. He plays in all situations and can play with different linemates without affecting his or their production (negatively). He plays a lot of minutes (sorry, I can't share those numbers).

He has a surprisingly good shot. I've talked to him about it and he knows he needs to use it more. Two seasons ago he scored on 11.8% of his shots. Last season he increased his shot total by 41% so he was cognizant of needing to use it more and keeping the opposition guessing as to whether he would shoot or pass. His shooting percentage dropped to a more normal 10.2% though.

He's continued to steadily improve on faceoffs - going a whopping 57.1% in the playoffs and taking all the key draws.

I know for a fact that he will put whatever work he needs to in the summer to compete for a job come September. So anything is possible. Based on the end of May, I would suggest another year in the OHL would be best for him. But it wouldn't surprise me in the least to see him make the club on opening night.

In case he does return to Oshawa though, he should probably consider this Enter to Win an Authentic, Signed Jack Studnicka Jersey

So is the contest only if he plays in the ohl?

Watched him a few times against Niagara Ice Dogs. That’s who I see. Kelly was a good player.
Kelly was the key 3rd line center the Bruins needed to win a cup. I don't think it an insult to compare Studnicka to Kelly but I have not watched him play outside of pre-season games so I can't make the comparison. I think the 2 problems people had with Kelly was that he took a C spot from Seguin, and he had his best ever NHL year as a pending free agent and got way more than he was worth. It was at that point, when the Bruins couldn't afford to keep Boychuk, that people started to sour on him.

I am a little worried that Studnicka got dinged up in the AHL last year and then again at Dev Camp. He'll need to be and stay at 100% to earn an NHL spot this year. If I were to bet money on who takes the open bottom 6 C spot, it would be Frederic.

Studnicka got dinged up in the AHL? He only played 5 games. Are you thinking of senyshyn?
