There is a lot of conjecture and very little analysis happening in this thread. I'll address just one point. The 13,14,15 slots in the draft are not exactly the bastion of superstardom that they've been made out to be in this thread.

Going back to the year prior to the Senyshyn draft, this is what we're looking at.

2014 - Vrana, Honka, Larkin
2013 - Morrisey, Wennberg, Pulock
2012 - Faksa, Girgensons, Ceci
2011 - Baertschi, Oleksiak, JT Miller
2010 - Gormley, Schwartz, Forbort
2009 - Kassian, Kulikov, Holland
2008 - Teubert, Boychuk, Karlsson
2007 - Eller, Shattenkirk, Plante
2006 - Grabner, Helenius, Wishart
2005 - Zagraban, Pokulok, O'Marra

So that is back to the lockout. I count three top 6 players on first division teams (Larkin, Jt Miller and Schwartz) and 2 top pairing D on first division teams (Shattenkirk and Karlsson). This notion that a team picking in the teens should be nailing superstars does not hold up to any intelligent scrutiny. There is only one superstar taken in any of those spots in the last decade and only 2 of those 5 players was in the NHL in their draft +2 year. You're either complaining to complain or out of expectations that are way too high.

Funniest part is gunna be when you look at that list in 3/4 years you're gunna have to bold quite a few more guys.

Even if he made the team unless you are in the top 3 you will not get powerplay time or extra shifts. Last year's team over played the so called stars to death and they came up empty and tired. The coach would not change his approach and left good players playing in roles they were not good at. My fear with him is making the team and being used 3 times a period as a checker on the 4th line. People would say he is a bust he is not scoring, what a wasted pick. Thats the way Canada roles out the players, it can be a showcase for only a few elite guys. The Marners, McDavids and Crosby's of the talent pool get the spotlight and the coaches are auditioning for the show too. Maybe they wanted to work in some younger guys for next year's tourny in the bottom 6 or they went with real checkers for that role.

That hasn't happened since 1998 I don't see Maltny Draper or Zamnuer on this team.

Much like the Olympic teams Bergeron Marchand Vlasic guys that are very skilled 2 way players made it. I'd say it's a bad indicator that he didn't make it because if he wasn't going to be an elite scorer the deficiencies in his game take him right off the team...

I'll come to you
They aren't too high. Please compare to 2003 which is what the 2015 draft has been compared to for a year or two before it even happened.

After I see your analysis of that comparing apples to apples instead of an apple to an orange I will be happy to admit you are right.

OK, so you want to compare "apples to apples" and you assume the apples in 2003 are equal to the apples in 2015. Let's just give you that one and say you are right. No problem. You are right.

I don't often quote Barrack Obama, but I'll make an exception here ....

"please ... proceed"

This is what all of my messages were referring to yesterday in which I obviously did a poor job of getting my point across.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2003_NHL_Entry_Draft

You're happy with Steve Bernier Eric Fehr and Mark Stuart.

While me and the others guys fighting with you have higher standards and expectations.

The point is they had a every chance to do something spectacular and it doesn't look like it's playing out that way.

So you want an apples to apples comparison about what Sweeney did with mid first round picks in 2015 and you want to compare it to 2003, but you don't accept that Steve Bernier is an acceptable pick in that spot ...

... cue the Twilight Zone music please ....

Steve Bernier IS a mid first round pick in 2003! He is pick #16 for crying out loud. You are whining that you don't want Steve Bernier type players picked and pining for the 2003 draft and Steve Bernier is actually the #16 pick in that 2003 draft. So a pick like Bernier is right in the wheelhouse for such a deep draft, but you want to use hindsight 14 years later to cherry pick 3 guys you think will be more succesful than the 3 guys we took, which of course, you have no way of knowing.

We do know that both Seabrook and Zboril were returned to junior at both 18 and 19 and both made their world junior teams, so so far so good for Zboril on an apples to apples comparison. So how is it "not playing out that way" for Zboril?

Robert Nilsson, the #15 pick in your vaunted 2003 draft couldn't stick in the NHL. So while you sit here knocking Bernier and his 633 game NHL career, you are pining for Nilsson and his abbreviated 252 game stint? Again, your slipping in your own schlitz. This makes no sense.

If anything, DeBrusk will likely be the youngest of the 6 2003/2015 comparable first rounders to play in his first NHL game if he gets a callup at any time this season. DeBrusk is the only one of the 6 playing pro hockey in North America in his draft+2 year, so if anything, he is ahead of the curve on the 2003 guys. How is it "not playing out that way" for DeBrusk?

Dustin Brown scored 75 goals in the OHL the 2 years after he was drafted. Senyshyn will beat that. Likely score around 90 or more. So how is it "not playing out that way" for Senyshyn? Brown scored only 1 goal and 5 points in his first pro season. I'll put dollars that Senyshyn will beat that as well.

In a different post you go on about our picks being bad because none have played in the NHL. Well, Brown, Seabrook, Nillson ... and Bernier ... none of them stepped foot in the NHL in the 2 years after they were drafted. So how is the progress of the 2015 guys "not playing out that way" ... it's playing out exactly the same! None of the 6, in 2003 or 2015 have played NHL games yet. EXACTLY the same! Of those 6 first rounders we are talking about in 2003 and 2015, DeBrusk could very well be the youngest of them to step foot in the NHL.

>>> Not to mention, perhaps one of the most impactful guys who is playing in the NHL this year from that draft IS OUR GUY, Brandon Carlo, drafted by Sweeney!!

At this point nobody knows who will be better or not better, but Zboril is on pace with Seabrook. Senyshyn is on a BETTER pace than Brown was and DeBrusk is on a BETTER pace than Nillson was.

I'll even be willing to wager that Bernier, at #16, will enjoy more games played in the NHL than his 2015 counterpart, Barzal. If you are looking for a bust, look there. Our guys are doing fine.

You and a couple of other posters are why I continue to read this site. I appreciate positions based in fact and knowledge. It is such a change from the " come on Sweeney get it done- trade Subban, Hayes and a 3rd for a top four dman".

Maybe the mods can institute a two-tier test to post.....you have to be over 12 and can't live in your mother's basement.

Except we do have a way of knowing. It's called projections and scouting... both of which the Bruins decided to go off the board.

We can argue til we are both blue in the face but time will tell who was right.

I'm just happy that after all the duds in the first round hopefully McAvoy can change that) that they have found tons of quality in rounds 2/3/4 to make up for what is going to be shortcomings at the top.

I'm also not a fan of Barzal but there are/were a ton of other picks to be made. I was on the Kocency hope train and I'm sure if you go back you can see in the draft thread who else I liked on draft day.

I used to watch enough junior hockey and I'm sure if you go back thru prospect and draft threads over the last 15 years I've been pretty damn good at projecting WHL guys. Lately I'll admit I'm an arm chair GM on these guys but the stats and accomplishments of everyone around them are starting to add up and the Bruins guys aren't following suit and don't have the same projections which is disappointing. They had a chance to quote Donald Trump "make he Bruins great again" and it's looking like more middle of the pack hopes and prayers.

See, that's where you are wrong. The other thing is not being named to Team Canada. Not a big deal. He's not a Hockey Canada guy. That has more to do with making TC than anything.

Don't believe me though, take it from Jesse Gabrielle who said just that in our podcast. And players before him said the same thing.

Of Team Canada's forwards invited to camp, only two did not come through Hockey Canada's Program of Excellence: Senyshyn and Anthony Cirelli.

Politics? Call it whatever you want. I made it very clear when Senyshyn was on the OHL roster vs the Russians, even before the invite to camp, that he'd be in tough to make it. Had nothing to do with talent. And I did it at the risk of alienating people at Hockey Canada whom I depend on for information.

Somehow I knew there'd be a negative reaction from some here though.

Oh, and this one.

Calling them duds before they've played a single game in the NHL?

Brilliant.

Brilliant.

We argued about his last year. Sensyshn is the one I've been convinced the most about actually turning into something. But can you honestly look at that first round and tell me that you'd make the same 3 picks?

There were a lot of home runs to be had by the looks of things is there not?

I'm just disappointed that it very much like the 2003 Bruins draft. In 2003 they grabbed Bergeron in 2015 I think they did wonders with KFK Lauzon and Carlo.

Mark Stuart has had a fine career and Sensysh/Debrusk/Zboril might follow.

It's just looking around at what could have been and not 3/4/5 years down the road. The problems and criticisms were there on day 1.

Exactly, and they were drafted by an organization that has depth so they can develop elsewhere getting top minutes as opposed to playing a Hayesian 9 minutes a night or press box duty with the big club. The salary cap has made it very attractive to rush 19/20 years olds up as a form of cap containment. And on draft night 2015 the plan wasn't to pick13/14/15 but to move up. When that didn't happen the B's drafted for organizational need.

Wasn't there a rumor about them getting to the 4/5 range to get Hanifan? Man that would've been awesome.

I think our/my expectations are just different. Mark Stuart and Steve Bernier are duds to me.

Anyway I've beat this all to death. I'll hope for the best with all 3. But when we are debating in 2023 about credibility one of us (not just you and of the posters in the 1000 msgs) will be able to come back to this thread.

That right there is a huge huge huge no no. If that's their justification for those picks then all management should be fired.

As rumoured they tried to move up for Hanifin. Wouldn't have that been great. Instead they had no intelligent back up plan?

It looks more and more like the runor was true that they did not have any scouts that covered the OHL after the management shuffle.

I don't think they drafted for organizational need, I think they drafted for organizational fit. As in they wanted to draft guys that played and carried themselves a certain way

And I'm 100% fine with that and it is 100% ridiculous to label them duds in 2016.

I had no problem with the Senyshyn pick. I said I wanted the Bruins to draft him even BEFORE the draft. You want me to go back and look at your posts, take your advice and go look at mine.

Zboril was the next best d-man available after the top 3. That was a consensus

I also had no problem with DeBrusk. Are there others I would have taken? The correct answer: there are others I would have accepted. There's a difference.

You say they are duds. I say your wrong because you have no way of saying that without them playing a single game. Just like I can't say they are a sure thing.

Anyway, i'll leave it at that. You won't accept the facts and I won't accept your opinion. No sense in continuing this. I'll leave it to Fonzie if he so chooses to debate you instead of wrapping his Christmas presents.

I'll come to you
Lately I'll admit I'm an arm chair GM on these guys but the stats and accomplishments of everyone around them are starting to add up and the Bruins guys aren't following suit and don't have the same projections which is disappointing.

Do you listen to yourself?

Are you alergic to logic? You must be one of those anti-everettmike-guys we heard so much about this past summer.

This statement holds the same logic as ..

"I don't eat seafood in Boston because it's all imported"

or

"January is my favourite month of the year because it never snows anywhere in January"

It's just a boldly opposite of the truth statement

"the stats and accomplishments of everyone around them are starting to add up and the Bruins guys aren't following suit "

The boys have their own "accomplishments" that other first rounders may or may not have. Zboril is a 2 time WJC particpant for his country. Senyshyn is a 2 time Super Series participant and WJC camper. DeBrusk is a ppg Memorial Cup guy and WJC camper and the highest shot-per-game forward in the AHL. There are many first round picks in 2015 and other years who can't match these accomplishments. So what?

You are saying the STATS of everyone around them is adding up and they don't follow suit? I can agree with you they don't FOLLOW. How about LEAD, which is a more fitting word.

A bit of FACT you might try and squeeze into your rhetoric. I'll compare our boy Zac to all other 2015 Drafted forwards, all Team Canada forwards (or other WJC forwards curently playing junior) and ALL other 13th/14th/15th overall forward picks this century at the same time and you tell me where he is falling behind.

Goals per game since being drafted (June 2015) - or in the case of prior 13th/14th/15th overall picks, goals per game last 2 years of junior (note: I'm going goals per game here, because I know you are ready to dismiss guys in junior like Strome and Speers because they were late getting back to their junior teams. So we'll go goals per game, so it doesn't penalize the and we are still dealing with apples-to-apples)

ALSO NOTE: I'll only include the junior guys (apples-to-apples) and I'll concede he's behind the guys who went from draft to NHL like McDavid and guys who stuck in the pros, like Marner, Konecny, Beavillier, Crowse etc. But of course, we didn't have picks when most of those guys were on the board anyways, but I know how you like to hold the fact we missed on the first 11 picks against us ... ... so I'll keep those guys in it who are still in junior so you've got something to hold onto

I'm not sure how you can straight face say that a guy we drafted as a goal scorer is falling behind his peers statistically. He isn't. I don't care what group you are using for peers. Is it;

a.) 2015 Draft Class
b.) Hockey Canada Selection Camp
c.) Forwards drafted 13/14/15 this century

Throw them all in a pot and compare them apples-to-apples and Zac is at the top of the heep. #3 overall. (and Gabrielle in there like a dirty shirt at #8) If those aren't home run picks then I don't know what is. Though nothing here constitutes sure-fire success, it's obvious that these guys are developing beautifully and have only solidified and increased their stock since draft day.

It's proof again that Boston knew what it was doing and knew what it was getting, all the while self-proclaimed hockey "experts", like yourself, revealed their ignorance by second guessing it, as you are doing now while desperately grasping at straws. You come slithering out from under your rock and start a one-man ticker tape parade at any perceived personal setback (like being the final cut for Team Canada) as some kid of dellusional confirmation of your list making superiority. But hey, if Zac getting cut is cause for you to crack open the champaigne and celebrate your most excellent projectionating skills (now I'm quoting George Bush), then go ahead and have a party. Sounds like maybe you need one.

The guys that I think have a chance at being good nhlers are
Mcavoy, zboril, senyshyn And maybe Lauzon
Not that excited of the others. .

David Quinn who doesn't have a history of saying **** unless he means it

He says JFK reminds him of Toews

I've seen him and he reminds me of someone who is a step ahead of everything going on

Anders Bjork could be in discussion for the Hobey Baker

Just a couple or more

I didn't mind the hit. Good hard clean check. It was the way his head bounced off the ice that I was concerned about. And he looked and played a little goofy after that. Wouldn't be surprised if he suffered a bit of a concussion there

It was a perfectly fine hit, just caught Gabrielle off guard I suppose. Oh well, at least the Xmas break is upon us so he can get some rest and hopefully not miss anymore games
