Sobering comments. But in the last game against Canada Frederic had some strong shifts and was out in the ice a lot in the waning minutes of a tight game. I expect he'll make the squad, especially if he lights it up back at Wisconsin.

and if he doesn`t, the list is beyond lengthy of players who either never got an invite to their countries camps or did and got cut who went on to have fine NHL careers, it would hardly be a career ending circumstance IMO

Winger Anders Bjork hopes he can be a right fit with Bruins

The Bruins made it clear to Anders Bjork this spring, before he signed his first pro contract, that they were taking job applications. Able to put the puck in the net? Step right up, young man. All goals graciously accepted, no matter what your level of experience.

“That was definitely a factor,†recalled Bjork, the former Notre Dame standout, noting why he chose to eschew his senior year with the Fighting Irish. “[General manager] Don Sweeney told me there is good opportunity here, especially for wingers. That’s exciting for me.â€

Bjork, who turned 21 over the weekend, will be here in less than a month when the Bruins open their rookie camp (Sept. 7), the highlight of which will be a four-day Prospects Challenge (Sept. 8-11) in Buffalo with the Sabres, Devils, and Penguins. The winnowing process for job security along the Charles River will begin alongside Lake Erie.

“We’ve been fairly committed to allowing our young prospects to try to take some opportunities,†said Sweeney, who has set the stage for an intensely competitive battle among his forward group. “I do believe there are a couple of players that will challenge.â€

truly excited to hear/read about this kid and many more for that matter come camp time

My big 3 last year

Carlo- minimum 1/2 season in Providence at least 100 AHL games before ready for Bottom 6

Pastrnak- low 20's would be nice progression and play at least 70 games concerns gets nicked up to much

McAvoy- AHL after season and get experience hopefully in Providence playoffs like Werenski did year before for Springfield

This year

Bjork - make team 15-18 goals

DeBrusk- play 40 games and solidly as future NHL player

JFK - be playing in Boston by February

should be some pretty heated competition for spots come camp time. I won`t make predictions about who`s going to put up what only because I`ve got a proven track record of having no clue what I`m talking about

I like Heinen and won't bet against him so it will be interesting to see what happens

It's like going to the Topsfield Fair and getting 5-6 darts and throwing at a board with the strawberries and apples pictures to win a prize

I expect to stick one or two with that many darts I just don't know which dart

Bjork would seem a good bet but someday we may see Gabrielle as the best guy

Camp will be fascinating

If they hit high end on Bjork and he joins Pastrnak on the top 6 as stars the Bruins are in excellent shape regardless of anyone else

To get two young high end wingers goes a long way

Look at Winnipeg with Laine & Ehlers

Boston would have that plus Marchand

Could the Olympic's be in the cards for a couple of Bruins prospects? Fanrag's Hannah Storm thinks it's a distinct possibility.

Given that the USA Hockey brass hired a college coach to run the team, and given where a good chunk of the USA’s talent outside the NHL lies, it’s not unthinkable that the team that takes the ice in PyeongChang will have a significant NCAA presence."

NHL's Farm Systems Ranked

Bruins Ranked 12th

Although the Boston Bruins do retain one of the stronger farm systems in the NHL, the team has fallen two places in this year’s ranking due to an average 2017 NHL Draft and the stalled development of a number of their high-end prospects.

On one hand, players such as Jake DeBrusk, Jakub Zboril, Charlie McAvoy, Anders Bjork and Trent Frederic have continued to progress as individuals and stand ready for considerable NHL ice time in the near future. Conversely, valued prospects Malcolm Subban and Zachary Senyshyen have failed to advance as expected and now appear as long shots to secure significant ice time within a deep group of competitive young talent.

The guy who wrote this is a young kid who recently graduated in the field of conservation, and moonlights covering the Mississauga Steelheads junior hockey team. Hardly an informed opinion on the prospect pools of the NHL

Mark Divver has tweeted that Connor Clifton has signed an AHL contract with Providence and will be at the Bruins training camp in September. Interesting signing. Kid was a very good college player and was a 5th round pick of the Coyotes. Was the captain at Qunnnipiac last year and the ECAC tourney MVP the year before. Not sure how his game will translate, he isn't huge but is probably close to 200 pounds at 5'10 ish. Real competitor, chippy and aggressive. Given the PBs depth on D a little surprised he would sign there, but he is a right shot guy which they are short on.

I'm interested in Johansson this year as well. He has a strong career progression based on where he was drafted (7th round). He played on Swedish national teams at U16, 17, 18, 19 and 20. He has also played on the Swedish senior national team during the international breaks in Europe over the past few years. Would possibly have been a candidate for their Olympic team if he had stayed in Sweden for another year. All that is expecially impressive if you think about how many good Swedish defenseman are out there, even when the top NHL guys are out of the mix. He scored 7 goals in Djurgardens last year, so maybe he has a little more offensive potential than Arnesson, who just seemed too slight for NA hockey.

Johansson did play six games at the end of the year in Providence but I didn't see any of those games. Going to be a really fun team in Providence this year considering the number of guys they have that have the potential to play in the NHL.

I could have but it would have had to have been before Vatrano go hurt because once I heard that that part was over

no way on Zboril

but I had Carlo in the AHL at least for 40 games and likely till the spring

had Pastrnak coming in around 22-23 goals and Marchand returning to the 27 range

I need to be more positive about the Bruins I'm constantly selling them short

What kind of a player is he? More defensive, or a decent mixture of both?

According to the Finnish board, Vaakanainen will need roughly another month before he recovers from the shoulder injury he suffered during the WJSS. I'm not sure when the season starts in Finland but it seems like he'll miss the preseason at the very least. Not an ideal start to his year.

It was a hard but clean hit he took while making a play on a simple dump in from the red line while under pressure. Shoulder was slammed into the glass hard. Was in noticeable discomfort on the bench. Guessing it's a type of injury that he should be able to rebound from just given some time to heal. Time is something he certainly has on his side. Just the same it's a situation to watch and see how it does unfold.
