Swap in any one of: Crosby Malkin McDavid or any of the league darlings and does Parros still make the same call?

This goes to the heart of the issue.

I'm not going to claim that the league or the officials are conspiring against the Bruins, but there's no doubt in my mind that superstars get preferential treatment.

If any of the guys you mentioned were the recipient of the hit, I'm guessing that there is AT LEAST a phone call.

Conversely, if either of the above, (Or P.K. as an example) committed that foul, I'm guessing no hearing at all.

Our own Marchand is a punk and has deserved most of the penalties he's received. That said, I strongly believe that if he had been drafted top 5 and began scoring high numbers in his first year, he'd have gotten away with many of them.

This has been going on for years.

Google “Crosby dirty plays” or “Subban slew-foot”.

There are compilations for both and each of them could have easily been suspended 4-5-6 times.

That’s the problem. If you aren’t fined or suspended for the first or second, you never have a history when you commit the 3rd or 4th offense.

Based on what has happened with open season on the B's, I think Sweeney should sign a goon, and dress him early in the season next year and have him make a few statements. Then he can bring him back out as needed. If the DOPS, isn't going to do their job, Sweeney needs to find someone who will. This team is good and deep enough that they can carry a 13th forward like that.

That is probably one of the more ridiculous things I’ve ever heard. A paying STH can’t talk to refs? Are they that fragile? Or that thin skinned that they’d take fan reaction out on the home team?

I’d encourage you to ignore and chirp away, but it would be a sin for you to get tossed. Can’t fight city hall (or NHL).

What tender little bamboo shoots those officials are........ shameful.
They are rather thin skinned.

If they are bad tonight I will be letting them know (even though it does no good).

I'm a new member here and I'm from Montreal and I'm no longer a fan of the Habs since 1986.

You're all absolutely right that the NHL has to change their punishments system. What happened yesterday in Winnipeg is ridiculous. Morrisey deserves a suspension for his action against "Griz". That said, the 2 members (ex-players) who make the decisions concerning the suspensions, are ex-players of the Montreal Canadiens. That's the source of the problem !!!!! ... GO BRUINS GO !!!!!!!

And by the way, my favorite B's players are Patrice Bergeron (from Quebec City !), the man of great opportunities Brad Marchand and the fabulous Charlie McAvoy !!!! My fourth favorite player is ... "The Depth of this team" WOW !

PS: Hockey reporters in montreal are openly hoping for "Tanking right now" in order to have a better chance of getting Rasmus Dahlin in the next draft. It's a real DISGRACE for sports !!!!!!
Sorry, my english is not "perfect".
Welcome to the best HF board !

A thousand miles from nowhere
Every time I hear about Backes I remember this Eddie shore story. Boy have times changed.
-----------------------------
Once defenseman Don Johns was immobilized on a hospital bed, suffering a 40-stitch cut in his leg. The phone rang. It was Shore. "Mis-ter Johns," he said, "you ought to be ready to play pretty soon."
" 'But Eddie,' I told him, 'I can't even turn my leg....' " Next thing I know he hung up. For a minute I thought maybe I was babying myself. So I called the doc and told him to look at the leg. He did and told me I'd be crazy if I got out of bed in the next couple of days."
By the end of the week Johns was released from the hospital and reported to Shore.
"Mis-ter Johns," Shore ordered, "you're playing tonight."
"He played me for three minutes," says Johns, "and then suspended me for a week. 'When I played hockey,' he told me, 'I once had 100 stitches in the leg and I was out only three—no, two and a half—days.'"

Bruins have a big game tonight, with first place on the line - The Boston Globe

The Bruins hope to have team captain Zdeno Chara, fresh from signing a one-year contract extension, back in the lineup vs. Tampa Bay

Defenseman Charlie McAvoy, sidelined for nearly a month with a wrenched knee, took the ice in a red (noncontact) sweater for the morning skate.

One surprise: Matt Grzelcyk was in uniform for the workout.

David Backes, out since suffering a deep gash to his thigh March 17, also participated in the workout. He only returned to skating Tuesday.
