big Ference fan and may be waaaaaaaay off base here but just seems going by body language, play, not as many smiles or involvement imo, there is something else bouncing around in his mind...could be anything, could be future with the team...just seems off all around

You were on to this weeks ago. Very astute observation. He is playing like a guy nervous about his future.

They weren't sharp but I think are people blowing the whole toughness versus the Sabres thing a bit out of proportion. I didn't think Khudobin was really run, unless I missed it. Buffalo were certainly crowding the crease and on top of him all night but I didn't see anything egregious. The worst bump he took was when Kaleta went into him after the whistle, but that was because a Bruin drilled him from behind.

My problem is they were very aggressive clearing out vs the Rangers and they didn't take near the liberties that Buffalo did. Vs Buffalo nothing.

Globe had an interview with him last week where he is wondering about an extension and waiting on Chia to reach out to him.

I don't think we've played very physical against Buffalo since the Lucic/Miller incident last year. Maybe Sabres whining did reap some benefits for them after all.

Just addressing a few issues I see here in the thread. Toughness, check. Dobby while not run, certainly had more to deal with than Miller. Krejci did get run and hit quite a bit too and was poor because of it.

NO finish....well of course, but I think this team can finish when it bears down. Either Miller was in their heads last night, or they just thought they would blow about five clean shot and three two on ones and go without a shot.

Ference. Yes he was directly responsible for the first goal and played badly for a period after that but he got better.....the effort was there. Sorry to say this but Seidenberg and Chara are declining and it will show in the overall d. Ference is fine.

No effort third....I don't think it was a no effort third. I think it was a We are going to toy with them for two periods and when they decide to shorten the bench and play we will be caught short. Showboating and coasting is not the mark or a good team and I am sure Julien will have something to say about it.

Seguin..Here it is the world's biggest I told you so....I yelled about this all of last year and I was RIGHT...Seguin is extremely lacking in both hockey sense and toughness. That is a bad combo. I dont expect him to be a mucker with his frame but he had better have the sense to use his speed to drive people back to make passes...He does the opposite he drives right towards people for shots. Might as well move him to center at this point as it will at least give him more space and maybe his sense will develop some.

I think the loss was more about hitting 4 posts and then playing a crappy third period.

I agree with Seguin though, its so frustating to see him appear to be playing well and just getting nothing out of it. When he takes the puck up the center of the ice he just looks so dangerous, maybe it is time to put him at center?

Marchand - Seguin - Horton
Lucic - Krejci - Pevs (Igilna post deadline)
Bourque - Berg - Kelly

I agree with you about trying Seguin at center...it's worth a try.
As for Iginla, Here is a recent quote from Pierre LeBrun, "For Boston fans who keep asking me, I do not believe the B's have any interest in Jarome Iginla. I don't think they'll go there".

Stuey was 100% team first. He would have stepped up tonight for sure. I miss the guy terribly. It just baffled me how much the guys didn' step up on terms of the physical stuff. Shocked even. Maybe they were tired or something but last night was not a normal night for us. Chara looks so average out there lately.
I can't remember if I heard Jack Edwards or Dave Goucher say the "Chara is the Bruin's best d-man?" I believe that it was Jack but anyways it was such a lazy statement to make since he hasn't been that so far this year IMHO. Ference made a statement (no link) in the last several weeks about greedy owners etc., I wouldn't be surprised if he's quietly shooting his way out of town (but for where).

Wonder if Jacobs wants Ference gone after his involvement in the CBA final negotiations. Wasn't he the first one to tweet a hint that the deal was done?

Ference does and says things that make Tim Thomas look mild in comparison but because he is involved in charities that are way more popular he and his motives are never questioned. I'm not saying that he has ulterior motives by any means but his is out there in many of his statements.

And most of the fan base here seem to think the team needs to choose between playing 'tough' or securing the '2 points'. Why can't they do both?

They have done that for five years...but now the Sabres hit them back so they need to tone it down a notch or two. They certainly played tough vs the Rangers... Saw lots of fire from Lucic and Chara that night...McQuaid...not so much last night.

If that's the case, you'd think Ference would be playing his best hockey to showcase his talent to get other teams interested in him, but that's not what we're seeing so far this year.

IMO the big elephant in the room is the Scott pounding of Thornton. Heaven forbid the Sabres squeak into a 7 or 8 seed and the B's face them opening round. Ruff would be wise to skate Scott 15 mins a game for intimidation purposes.

Somebody needs to put this issue to bed. Not necessarily win the fight,, but you'd have to think that fairing better than Thornton did would go a long way. Even a Chara hug fest would be ideal.

I can see ignoring him (not my style, or the Bruins I though, but whatever)...but if he knocks your goalie over...come on. Stand up.

Well, they did neither so that needs to change when we play the Sabres and fast. I don't feel like watching my team get beat up on the ice and lose the game, especially if we wind up with that team in the first round. HEY IT COULD HAPPEN.:help:

I would like to see a more aggressive brand of hockey too.

But in the Rangers game McQuaid got his hand up in Kreider's face one time and got sent straight to the penalty box. The referees don't hesitate to throw the Bruins in the penalty box and when the team is struggling to score that is a bad combination.

I'm also willing to give them a bit of a pass because their ultimate goal shouldn't be the President's Trophy....But that pass goes away when the playoffs start as there will be no fatigue excuses this year.

Absolutely not.

Seguin does not posses the defensive skills necessary to play the Center position let alone the 1st line Center position.

If you move the lines, Segin goes to back with Looch and Krejci and you remove Bourque and put Pandolfo in his spot and keep Kelly at Center which opens Peverley up to utilize his speed and offensive abilities.

I can't see Bourque out and Pandolfo in as anything close to an improvement. Then Peverley has to carry Kelly who has shown no offensive upside this season and Jay Pandolfo who I believe has 23pts in the past two seasons.

If you're going to juggle the lines, with Thornton's current play I would even say to sit him and bring Spooner back up from Providence for more creativity on line three.

Lucic - Krejci - Horton/Seguin
Marchand - Bergeron - Seguin/Horton
Bourque - Peverley - Spooner
Paille - Kelly - Campbell

Now you have Kelly in his proper role, Julien has a really awesome defensive line that he can roll out against anyone and Peverley has some creativity on either side of him to work the offensive zone. Come deadline time ideally we bring in Jagr/Whitney/Ryder, etc. and slot them in next to Bourque and Peverley.

Tyler Seguin will never realize his full potential as an NHL hockey player playing wing, the kid can score goals,no doubt about it, but he is not a pure goal scorer like Ovechkin or Kovalchuk. Tyler Seguin is Jonathan Toews, he is also John Tavares. It's time to put an end to Seguin on the wing, make a trade for a goal scorer for Seguin to pass the puck to. Tyler Seguin is a playmaker,so let the kid make plays.

Jagr???? Ryder??? Love to hear your reasons why the Stars would need or want to move either??? If anyone, Morrow the most likely candidate but even then....

I can see an Umburger make his way into a Bruin uni.

Still find it amusing how for 2 years this board was afire with screams for Chia to ship Rydes out with many offering their vehicles as a mode to do so, he has a nice playoff in the Cup win, moves, posts good numbers in an offence only system then everyone forgets the floating/puck hog routine

I completely agree, I want to see Seguin get a few games at center with Marchand and Horton or Lucic as his wingers. He grew up as a playmaking center that could score goals so until they try him there I'm not going to criticize his lack of production.

I remember seeing him out there with two wingers for a shift a couple games ago and he just looked more comfortable.

I actually have no issues with Ference or his outspokenness or Timmy and his beliefs. What I'm saying is Bossman Jacobs may have been angry at Ference "breaking the news" first, as opposed to an official announcement by the big brass. Stealing the thunder as you might say. The media jumped all over Ference's early morning tweet and the press conference was basically just a confirmation of what everyone already knew. I can imagine JJ being quite pissed when he first saw the tweet.

To be fair I was a Ryder guy all the way along, back when I was hosting BTR I would consistently sing his praises.

As for why Dallas would move either, Jagr is going to be a UFA and Ryder has played well for the Stars, they could easily see him as a sell target to get them a solid return.

Although I am not opposed to the idea of R.J. Umberger either. He would still fit the bill for what I'd like to see with 49 & 48 on line 3.
