That 30 mins extra it took to start the game was all I needed to fall asleep 5 mins before OT :(

Oh well, glad they got the win and looked like a fun OT.

Btw a nice assist by Holtz on our game tying goal. He made that play by fighting his way for the puck behind the net. He’s being physically aggressive on the forecheck and that wasn’t something I expected of him before the season.

Also regarding Nemec. Anyone else think he reminds them of Nic Lidstrom? The way he’s built and his way of moving and his instinct for where to go on the ice kind of recall him for me. Even though Nemec shoots right.
In my limited viewings in the years after he was drafted, I was cautiously thinking “I’m not saying he reminds me of Lidstrom but…” I wouldn’t say it here to avoid getting jumped on plus I hadn’t seen him enough.

Nemec has good but not great tools but his big asset is his feel for the ice and understanding of player location on it combined with an aggressive attitude. That’s how I think of Lidstrom as well. Lidstrom wasn’t the most physically dominant guy out there but every game he was the guy making the important plays and making you go “wow”.

I’m a bit surprised how good he is defensively at such a young age.

Would Slafkovsky go over Nemec in a re-draft? Would Hutson, over Hameenaho? Would Anderson command three 1sts, Nemec, Casey, Hameenaho?

No, nope. Hahabs.
Did Hutson score a goal in the last 15 minutes? It's so hard to keep up with these redrafts. has anyone done one yet for the upcoming draft?

Nemec skates much better than I had been led to believe before I watched him play 20 minutes a night. He covers a lot of ground. Has good facility turning. Good acceleration and first strides. He’s agile and quick for a guy with his build especially. He’s very strong.

also he’s efficient and economical in similar ways to Lidstrom - the way he moves, strides, reaches, poke checks , etc., the technique elements of his game. There’s no waisted motion.

Was there last night, and that felt like one of the best played games I've gotten to see this season. Seeing a tight defensive game that still had tension to it took me back a bit to the kinds of Bruins/Devils games they always seemed to play in the later Marty era, like 2007-2012 or whatever.

Seeing the defense do its job and Vitek looking confident again (the two might be related?) gives me a big dose of hopium that things are ready to click. I don't even think they necessarily played better defensively "at the expense" of the offense; they still generated some nice chances and set up some intelligent plays, but Boston's just really, really good at keeping bodies in the middle of the ice when they're defending and forcing passes out around the perimeter.

Nemec reminds me of Rafalski, who I always saw as a poor man’s lidstrom. I think he’s going to be better than Rafalski tho.

Ruff is so mysterious lol. Got asked if Nemec would stick around and he was like “we’ll take it game by game” lmfao. Kid has probably been our best D-man since being called up. He looks great.

Future is bright with Luke and him for years to come.
I do not think he is being mysterious. Given Nemec heavy minutes as soon as he came up IMO it is clear the coaching staff wanted him on the team to start the year but it was an organizational decision to send him down. That was probably a polite way of saying it is not my decision.

What did I say all along lol. I told you guys.

Loved his skating since he was a prospect, that’s why I eventually went Nemec over Jiricek. And I really like Jiricek.

So like, we might end up with the best pick in the 2022 draft with Nemec and the best pick in the 2021 draft with L Hughes. Kind of nice.

Nemec and Bratt had a really nice play in the 3rd period. Bratt kinda got turned around near the blueline and the puck poked free. Nemec didn't hesitate and jumped right up to grab the puck and try to make a play. Bratt immediately recognized and dropped back to cover the point. Once Boston got it out of the zone, Bratt was playing D and Nemec was backchecking. Bratt kept good position skating backwards keeping the puck carrier to the outside and Nemec worked towards the center to take away the pass.

Not really that big of a deal in the grand scheme of thigs, just seemed like really great intuition/communication from the both of them. Two very smart players on the same wavelength making good decisions. That sort of attention to detail will really help clean up the defense and transition, and help take this team to the next level.

Tuned in about 30 seconds before the OT goal, so, yay.

Watching highlights:

1. Are JVR and Shantenkirk still a thing? What year is this?

2. Did dicknose, excuse me, Captain Dicknose play? Did he do anything stupid?

3. How about JBo? How was his tribute video? 5 seconds long?

The Captain didn’t do anything egregious.

Sadly Boqvist didn’t play, so they didn’t have a shot of the back of his head on the scoreboard for 5 seconds while Devils PA announcer hurriedly acknowledged him, before blasting music again to drown out the smattering of confused applause.

(I’m assuming the “tribute” to Blackwood, Zetterlund and Okhotiuk at the San Jose game is the template.)

watching the highlights and when pasta dangled around Nemec and vitek got praise for the save. This is where Nemec saved it and helped out and showed some good recovery.

Vitek was giving up a lot of net to shoot at still and if Nemec doesn’t get his stick there, with how vitek was sliding over and swimming like he can, that probably goes in.View attachment 783246
You mean Defensemen actually help out Goaltenders?

But seriously, Nemec was doing his job as a d-man here.

Can't believe this kid is just 19. Unreal.
