What is in the world is this thread title? As if there is some great conspiracy happening.

Lafreniere was the consensus #1. Yes he needs to improve and pick up his game but some of the criticisms are absurd.

1st season was a shortened one and with a terrible micro manager of a head coach.

2nd season is 7 games old under Gallant. Gallant has had success with young players in Florida and Vegas.

Its not time to panic yet.

Not time to panic yet but it certainly is a fair comment that both Laf & KK have disappointed to date, given their draft status. They certainly haven't hit the ground running like say a Tim Stützle. Some prospects obviously need more time. Worth noting that the main criticism of both Laf & KK was their skating and that has proven to be an issue.

Can't read but if they said...

Laf's biggest issue is hes the weakest player on the puck on the team especially along the boards, then yes.

He's not wrong.

Kakko has shown serious improvements in his all around game, though the offense hasn't yet arrived.

Lafreniere, when he isn't scoring, isn't offering much. He doesn't seem to have developed an inch since leaving Junior hockey.

At a certain point the kid has to realize he's going to need to adapt and change his game if he wants to make some money at this level.

Stutzle hasn't exactly lit up the stats sheet either, but he definitely displays elite traits and is noticeable on the ice. Would kill to see anything like that from Laf.

This. He clearly feasted on the weak Q by developing faster then everyone else. He has made no progress since draft day. That is not good, regardless of the coach, the system, the linemates, etc.

Our skill players all look like shit which is definitely not helping Laf get comfortable and get fed scoring chances to build confidence. Everyone is forcing things that aren't there, especially Laf. No one ever seems to be open in good areas on the ice, and when they are briefly open we don't make the quick pass to find them, and instead blindly try to cycle the puck around. We've really only scored on point shots (tips, rebounds) and the occasional rush goal (odd man rush for Laf, or Fox to Blais to Laf). Whenever we actually do generate a decent slot chance off the cycle 5 on 5 the goalie somehow makes a great save or we muff the shot (sans Zbad's one goal against Tor). Last night, anytime Calgary managed to lift the puck from a high danger area it was either perfectly roofed or a perfect corner shot making it a very difficult for Shesty as he was a bit off his game and angles last night. Our top skill guys are just not getting it done right now, not finding space, and not finishing their good chance, especially the high end young guns.

When other teams cycle us, they end up with at least 1-2 high danger chances 7/10 times, when we cycle the puck we just get just a point shot 8/10 times. Our O zone chemistry is so weak, I hope it's new coach syndrome and will work itself out over the next few weeks.

There is a long long list of high quality NHL players who took years to develop. Those who say he doesn't show flashes are not watching the games closely enough. I get the anxiety, but he needs more time to continue to develop.

This thread title it's quite misleading when it's referring to an article where Brooks says the Rangers need more from Lafreniere.

Lafreniere who is in game, what, 60 of his career? 20 years old?

I'd hold off on the 'flop' victory lap for maybe a little longer.

Yeah, I get being disappointed with him thus far, but you're correct that if you're not seeing some flashes you're not paying attention.

It's not nearly enough thus far but this isn't Lias Andersson out there. There's a few plays every game where he does something that reminds you why he was a top prospect. I actually see quite a bit of off puck things from him that show promise as well.

The issue is finding that consistency and honestly I think Lafreniere needs to play more assertive and controlling of the play. Throughout his career thus far he's been extremely deferential and seemingly by choice becomes a support player on his line. He defers to the vets, he's passing the puck immediately and streaking for it when his game was always carrying the puck through the NZ and controlling the play all over the ice. We need him to have 'his' line. That's why running him with Chytil and Blais may not be a bad idea.

I think everyone acknowledges that Lafreniere needs to improve (like about 15 others guys do, as well). This thread title is hilarious, though.
The title is written like a typical title from that rag people call the NY Post

NYR didn't draft Laf for what he might produce in his first 50 games.

but what a wonderful opportunity for our gang of enthusiastic second-guessers and haters!
